I'm sure this one will be much closer than the AJAX 95' vs CHELSEA 2005 comparision.
this time the comparision will be between CHELSEA 2005 AND INTER 1964.
what team was the better between those 2:INTER 64'-65'(OF HERRERA) OR CHELSEA 2005(OF JOSE.M)??

I don't know, that Inter team had a bunch of Spanish and Italian legends, while this Chelsea team has Terry, Lampard, Robben and a bunch of hard-working, average players.

Give them time, they'll be legends :)

I think Cech, Ferriera, Makelele, J Cole and Gudjohnson may just take exception at being called 'hard-working, average players' :p

I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone that has seen a couple of Inters games back in those days.

Of course, everybody can read what somebody else has thought, and wrote, about them, but thats not the same.I mean, if you haven't seen them. you're just posting somebody elses opinion.

I've never seen them.

Easily Inter. I wonder who will be on the roll call of shame this time? ;)

Surprisingly I can't remember much about Inter circa 1964.

Stop making these retarded threads.

Cech has potential, should've included him. Makelele is 32 and if he's not considered a legend now, tell me when to start. He is exactly that, a hard working, average player. Ferreira and Gudjohnsen are in their late twenties, Ferreira isn't even a starter with his NT. Unless Chelsea wins manages a treble in the next 2-3 seasons, they will be remembered as good players, but nothing to tell your grandson about.

Understand that when I say average players I mean for their level they're playing at. 20 years from now, people will remember Sheva, Ronaldo, Zidane, Ronaldinho, maybe Lampard (pity he's exploded into the scene so late) and Robben, Henry, you know, that kinda thing.

 Makelele may be many things, but "average" isn't one of them.

Ferreira and Gudjohnsen are in their late twenties,

They're both 26.

Ferreira isn't even a starter with his NT.

Heh - I've had this argument with comme. He disagrees.

Well, not really sure why you're ignoring Robben, who's currently the best Dutch player, or Duff, Ireland's best player, or Gallas, or Terry, etc. Greatness is very variable. Thuram, for example is regarded as really great, whereas I think if he doesn't score those two goals in the semi, we think of him no differently than Gallas.

Understand that when I say average players I mean for their level they're playing at. 20 years from now, people will remember Sheva, Ronaldo, Zidane, Ronaldinho, maybe Lampard (pity he's exploded into the scene so late) and Robben, Henry, you know, that kinda thing.

How old do you think Lampard is? How old do you think Ballack was when he "exploded onto the scene"? While I agree we don't have Ronaldo, Zidane or Ronaldinho, who's to say Terry won't be hailed as the Baresi/Nesta of his generation? Great players tend to become greater upon winning trophies, especially European ones. How much would we think of Luis Suarez if he hadn't left Barca with Herrera and won the two CLs with Inter? I'm not really sure.

At any rate, the point is moot. Until a few more years passes for this Chelsea side, its impossible to know what their standing will be. And as far as players - we haven't even bought one player this summer! Give us some time. ;)

I've seen a couple of their games on tape. Given the types of tactics Herrera preached, I don't imagine they're heavily sought out as entertainment................

In a previous post I did mention Terry, Lampard and Robben as players that WILL be remembered, so don't bash me quite yet.

As for Lampard, I think Eriksson (don't quote me on this, it might have been either him or someone else in the England team) said that he had never seen a player develop as fast as Lampard in the last year, so, considering he'll be 27 in a coupla weeks, that counts as a late bloomer for me.

As for Gallas, maybe when he does score two goals in a world cup semifinal I'll think of him as really great. It's things like those that help make yourself a name.

Come on, Makelele, Gallas, Duff, Ferreira, Parker et al. are solid players, some make important contributions, but they're nothing extraordinary... although I agree that only time will tell about these football-fiction threads... ah well, it's fun to argue about them, they're certainly good for that

More opinions? How about an opinion. (but don't hold your breath).

Even IF someone saw lots of the 1964 Inter team they probably couldn't give a fair opinion here because of the time elapsed. For example, lets say 40 years from now there's a poll: "Who's better: 2005 Barcelona or 2045 Real Madrid?". Problem with that poll is that when people think of the 2005 Barcelona they'll think of the 2004 Ronaldinho, the 2007 Eto'o, the 2003 Larsson, the 2009 Victor Valdes, etc.

lol ,who is that dunce who branded makelele as an "average" player??
no coincidence that real madrid have won jack since he was sold.
not many DM's as good as him.

If we are comparing various DM's during their careers, then Makelele isn't that great. He is very solid and dependable, but his overall talent is rather limited and he isn't in the top tier of DM.

How many years have you been following soccer? off the top of my head I can think Guardiola, Vieira, Roy Keane, Redondo, Pirlo, Hierro, Mauro Silva, Matthaus, Effenberg, Xabi Alonso, Davids, they are all, in their best version, far superior to the best Makelele ever had to offer. It's a pity that people these days think Makelele is some kind of top ace. He is a good defender, but come on, he is useless in the air, hasn't scored since he was a minor, and has little to no influence on the team's offensive play. If that is an extraordinary player, I'd like to have seen you rate Hierro when he played DM, headed everything that came his way, displayed a passing range that Makelele has only seen in his PS2 and scored 20something goals in a season.
