What means better? If you lose you aren`t better!

Leverkusen was the best team in the Bundesliga in 2002, but won nothing. They even played the most attracting football all over europe.

To win something big takes more than just being the best in playing football. You also have to be the best mentaly, but thats not what is asked for.

Its part of the game. You can`t put some skills and leave others behind and then say they were better.

What are games played for? To determine whos better, aren`t they?

No, I don't think so. Games determine a winner. The winner is not necessarily the overall better team. That is part of what makes sports, and soccer in particular, so frustrating at times. We've all seen this: one team clearly superior, outplays and outshoots the other, but is just terribly unlucky, while the other team ekes out a victory thanks to a freak goal. This is why there are soccer matches--with their unforgiving focus on scorelines, and their exclusive concern for winners v. losers--as opposed to skill contests evaluated by judges.

To bring it back to the topic at hand, I think it's entirely reasonable that one of the best world cup teams might not have won the Cup. No one questions that in the early 50s the magical magyars were the best team in the world, but does their one slip up in the WC final v. germany mean we have to consider germany a better team? hard to say.

Why?

Possibly because they didn't have 'a million chances'?

They had one clear goalscoring opportunity and that was Pochettino's header near the end of the game. That was the only time David Seaman was seriously called into action.

They had tons of possession, especially in the last 20 minutes, but they did nothing with it.

I'm a relative newcomer to soccer, but I've been told that Germany has this "play not to lose" mentality that makes for boring soccer. Other soccer fans said Brazil's 2-0 victory over Germany was a victory for exciting soccer and such.

That said, the greatest team has the greatest players, and that honor has to go to the World Cup title team of Pele in 1970, probably.

Are you all crazy? What about France in 1998? Fair enough, they didn't really have any decent strikers but still a fantastic team.

Exactly.

P.S.- The highlight of the game was David Beckham's PK (like that needed telling...lol)

Brasil was the best team in the finals until they imploded in the game that mattered most...The Final. The Dutch gave them a game in the semi but there was no doubt where the it was going.

I'd have to say Brasil '70 & Holland '74 .

There's too many who picked their team from the 80's 90's and so on . I truly believe Brasil & Holland made a major impact on football as we know it nowadays .

Thats wrong. Germany has scored the second most goals in World cup history. Only 10 less than Brazil.

The best team in World Cup would have to be Brazil's dream team of 1970.

Putting 4 past Italy is no easy doing.
