Does anyone else find it appalling that we cannot watch this game live in the US and that we get to see it on tape delay at 11:30 Eastern at the earliest?

Wednesday is TELEMUNDO day.

At 7:00 pm CDT it's Mexico - TnT, and
at 10:30 it's Panama vs. Estado Unidos.

If Rob Stone is involved, I'll take the Spanish language thank you very much.

But that's a nice day

Yes. Unfortunately baseball (on ESPN2 during Panama-US) is more popular and ESPN is contractually obligated to show Division I NCAA championships so ESPN(1) is showing softball during Panama-US.

The problem is that ESPN/ESPN2 are the only sports networks that most of the country actually gets and (as has been well covered here) it generally treats soccer poorly, even if it's better than it used to be. If Fox Soccer Channel were in as many homes as the ESPNs, I'm sure MLS and US Soccer would switch to them in a heartbeat.

I think SUM (the marketing wing of US Soccer) just signed a long-term exclusive rights deal with ESPN/ABC Sports, so for the time being, it seems that FSC is out of the picture.

I think, as of now, the USA-Mexico match is slated for ESPN Classic (I assume due to College Football), so I don't understand why this match can't be shown on Classic as well.

A lot of times these things have to do with corrupt national federations.
The heads of some of the CONCACAF federations run them as their own personal cash cows with little accountability if they screw up in distribution deals.
As with other forms of corruption this can result in inefficient allocation of resources, in this case soccer games.

I have my problems with ESPN... lots of them.
But absent any real evidence, I might assume that the Panamanian soccer federation is at least as guilty as ESPN.

^ not an issue with Panama FA, ESPN is showing the game, just not live.

Your are right about that....I am from Panama and I just found out that the panamanian federation wasn't paying the players appropiately and the stadium is in embarrasing conditions....but wait I have good news PANAMA'S diplomatic budget keep Diplomatic representation all over the world to promote the exportation of Panamanian "tity monkeys"

Absolutely disgusted. That's what I feel at this moment. Someone is to blame for the game not being televised tonight.
Ok, What Central American Dictator owns the rights to the English Language Telecast of the US-Panama game.

This is so unacceptable. I feel like it's 1988, and I'm trying to catch a US vs. ANYONE game. Could someone please tell me, who held the USSF hostage and told them to "TAPE DELAY" a WC qualifier in the year Two Thousand and FIVE?????

Let's see if that would happen in say England or Italy or Spain. An away match NOT TELEVISED, LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good going USSF, that's the way to show the world you're coming up and deserving to be called a Soccer Nation. What a farse.

Or is this ESPN again. They probably need to show the taped 2 years ago national log rolling championships!!! or is the NFL draft for waterboys on???

But for the US-Panama game I either have to have on Matchtracker from the wonderful USSOCCER.com website...or wait and listen to the game in the soon to be first language of the United States of America on Telemundo, tape delayed again till 11pm...or just forget about sleep altogether and sit through NFL DRAFT 9 and the tape delayed telecast on ESPN2. Which will be delayed another 84 minutes because Chris Berman took his midnight snack break down at Peking Garden's all you can eat, open 24 hours, pupu platter special.
Good Going USSF...that's the way to do it. Keep soccer a second rate "club" sport. Make no excuses for your enormous blunder. Instead of watching the boys take on Panama, ESPN is showing some stupid softball tournament.

Yeah, I miss the good old days. I remember watching every single USA Italia 1990 and France 1998 World Cup qualifier live on prime time network tv, pre-empting the regularly scheduled broadcast for those nights.

It was so awesome to see Paul Caligiuri score that away goal in Trinidad & Tobago that sent us to Italy on live TV, even though it meant that ABC had to bump a brand-new Mork & Mindy episode to broadcast the game.

It was also really cool to see every game from that World Cup on live TV during the summer of 1990.

Yeah, we've gone so far backwards in the last 15 years. It's a shame that ESPN and the USSF hate soccer.

Well, at least I can watch the Argentina versus Brazil game live right now for free on Fox Soccer Channel. Wait a second, it's been pre-empted to show a tape-delayed Finland v Holland game??!?!??!?!??!

Bastardos!!

I'm in Washington, watching my Telemundostation, and its the news, not the match. The Telemundo website adn the US Soccerwebsite say the match is supposed to be on now. Anybody out there with the same problem? Or know what's going on? I don't speak spanish so if they've said anything about the match Ihaven'tunderstood it.

Thanks in advance...
