Alright, I'm getting pretty worried about this turf toe. According to the write up on the Costa Rica game, EJ won't even go to Panama, nor will Gibbs. We are capable of winning without him, but this injury was never supposed to take this long to heal. What gives?

crappy field in panama... no idea if that means giving him extra recovery time
i believe we should still beat them (knowing they tied mexico at home... which means we must be up for this)
no one makes every qualifier (well, it's rare)... so other guys *have* to step up... we are deep enough to handle this

Turf toe sucks. It hurts and it takes forever to heal, because you normally end up banging it again just as it's about healed. It's a nasty little injury. Running is tough, kicking a ball is even tougher.

Not to mention we tied them in Panama last time.

" Athletes diagnosed with turf toe should avoid their sport for about three weeks to allow the joint capsule to heal. Once returning to activities, special inserts can be used to limit the motion of the big toe and prevent further damage to the joint capsule. "

Most people are not aware of what "turf toe" is. I know I didn't really know until it happened to me. It has nothing to do with artificial turf. And, I can tell you it was more painful to me than breaking a bone.
It happened to me in college. I played offensive line. I was blocking someone and was fully extended on my toes. The running back got tackled on the backs of my legs and he fell directly on my heel. Turf toe is basically a hyper extended toe. In my case, it was the big toe. I don't recall how long it took to heal, I'm getting old. But, it was much longer than when I broke my hand.

Not to mention we played like a crap, deserved to lose, and Cobi Jones saved our collective butts.
I never want to have to say that sentence again, not any part of it.

It can be a nasty chronic injury. If he's not ready then I'm glad he's not being pressured into playing before he's ready. Yes, it was tough last time but we should be able to get a result against Panama on the road with our A-/B+ squad.

For about a year, I taped my big toe and second toe together before playing, which helped; I also have the big knot on the left side of my right foot, next to the big toe they mentioned.

Seriously, for EJ's sake he should be extra careful. Turf toe can actually ruin your career if it doesn't heal, and he's got a lot more at stake than one qualifier.
