I thought the crowd for the CR game in Salt Lake City was fantastic. I know both Landon and Bruce said they loved it there, and hoped the USNT would be back there soon. I completely agree.

Give SLC another WCQ!!!

Let's add SLC to Columbus on the list of friendly cities for the NT.

nice job indeed. Hopefully they get a nice SSS over there soon, they deserve it

Well, will this guarantee that the final WCQ, U.S.-Panama, will come back to SLC?

I see two problems:
1-I don't think they could bring back sod in the middle of the Utah football season.
2-The turnout might not be as great the 2nd time around. It wouldn't be as big an event the 2nd time.

I'm all for more games for the next qualifying swing once they're in their new sss, but until then 1 and done seems to be the limit.

I say the panama game should be held in a smaller stadium someware. I really wish the US plays panama in that little portland stadium

the one when ramos scored against CR in 1997 wcq, that place was rocking

I think there's a thread on this somewhere else.

But we had help from out-of-state. Some FC Dallas fans drove here. That's insane. A few came in from California, too and Colorado.

Also, thousands of Utahns have spent 18 months or 2 years where soccer is, well, a religion. In the past, that meant Europe or Latin America.

But I suspect that a few fans yesterday had snuck into Crew Stadium or Gillette/Foxboro while their mission president's back was turned; saw what a US fan is supposed to do, and recreated the same atmosphere here.

Also, we had help from local Guatemalan, Salvadoran and Mexican fans. It's still weird to see a 6 foot blond guy with a BYU hat wearing a Chivas jersey, but as long as he cheered for the US, that's what counts.

And thanks to Landycakes, after the 6th minute, the Tico fans did not have too many reasons to make noise.

Like Rabble Rabble said, the last time there were so many visiting fans in this stadium was in the mid 80's for Utah - BYU football.

We are Alex Smith. You are a Mountain West Conference secondary.

I agree, Salt Lake and the atmosphere yesterday came across great on TV, you guys did a great job and definitly deserve more US games in the hopefully not too distant future. If SLC can regularly put together crowds like that, I say SLC's nearly up there with Columbus when it comes to where our tough CONCACAF matches should be played.

I have no clue what that means, but thanks for the perspective, Blitzz Boy. No matter the reason, that was the absolute BEST home crowd I remember. Sure, the US - Mexico game in Columbus was great. Awesome. But it was only 20,000 people. This was double that amount, and despite being in a noisy bar where there were only the 7 of us watching the game (we aren't going back there again!), it came over the broadcast loud and clear. Thank, Inferno, and all the other contributors!

I can argue either way for the Panama game to wrap things up, but I now definitely believe that a qualifier should be held in SLC in four years. In SLC's new stadium!

Alex Smith was a star Quarterback for University of Utah last year. their team played a lot of teams in the Mountain West Conference, and Smith threw for a ton of yards over those teams' defensive backs (a.k.a. "secondary"). the person who posted is basically showing pride in Utah, that's all. :)

...But we had help from out-of-state. Some FC Dallas fans drove here. That's insane. A few came in from California, too and Colorado...There were a few who flew in also. There were a lot of folks with soccer gear on in the security line with me at the SLC airport yesterday.

But the vast majority of those in the stadium were good old Utahans.

...the person who posted is basically showing pride in Utah, that's all. :)I think Biltzz Boy was not only showing pride in the Utes but also disrespect (well deserved) to BYU. Too bad Utah didn't get to play Auburn instead of that wimpy team from Pitt.
