Being the expansion forum, I was hoping your "signs of life" title referred to the Sounders' MLS bid.

Sounderfan, other than you and one or two others, I don't see many Seattleites on these boards... or maybe you're all in the USL forum which I don't visit. Do many of you also root for MLS teams or are you only for the Sounders and the Nats?

Off-topic... if I take a job in DuPont, where would you recommend I live? Seattle side or Olympia side? Would probably be looking for a house in the low- to mid-100s range - salary in the 50s to start. I've heard Tacoma's bad... or is that just a myth?

Man I hope Seattle gets MLS someday.

I think you might be in for a bit of surprise. The AVERAGE price of a home in King County (Seattle) is $370,000. It's less in Pierce (Tacoma) and in the Olympia area, but still around $175-250K.

Tacoma is actually making quite a comeback. Downtown is being redone too.
Olympia is a nice area, but growing like crazy, as are most points between there and Tacoma.

Re: Seattle people on these boards...can you blame them? We've had our hopes dashed more than any other expansion city, dating back to 1996. Sometimes it has been the city's fault, sometimes the league, sometimes the ownership groups. The fans have had just about enough talk. It's action or nothing now for most. Sort of a "call us WHEN we have a team" attitude.

You are more than welcome to join Sounders fans here:

We have an MLS-Seattle section in our forums that gets more hits than this one...

Here's the direct link. WARNING, we have a fair amount of MLS detractors there, too!

Gak. I'm obviously going to have to do (a) some serious housing research and (b) some serious salary negotiations.

Good to hear. I've been reading about Olympia/Lacey and they sound like very nice towns. How long of a drive would it be from say Lacey to downtown Seattle?

Totally understandable.

I'll check out the Sounders boards.

1 hour, 20 minutes IF the traffic is good:

That's a BIG if! :D

I'm not a Seattleite but live in Washington. As Sounderfan noted, we've had extensive discussions on this board's predecessor about MLS and Seattle. Some, like me, simply took comfort in RSL being "only" 700 miles from my home, making it "local" and thus an appropriate outlet for my fandom.

I live in Tumwater (neighbor to Lacey and Olympia) and it takes about 50-55 minutes to get to seattle from here if traffic is normal...on Seahawks gamedays it takes us around an hour and 20 minutes or so...but yes, Lacey and Tumwater mostly have been blowing up lately...olympia is the same and i wouldn't want to live downtown olympia at all...but i'de say get a place in hawks prarie or lacey if you don't want to live in tacoma...

in Tacoma we have such a reputation as a dump but let me tell you that so much of it is amazing now. South Tacoma and the Eastside are getting a lot better, and where i live in the North End i find that it's a LOT more green and nice than anywhere i've been in Seattle. check stuff out in Tacoma my friend you'll end up liking what you see, but homes can get up there in price where it's nice.
