Surprising that Arena would go out on a limb like that.
"Beasley when he's at his best , is a dynamic player. When he's on the field working with Landon, it makes us a more dangerous team going forward," Arena said. "When they're healthy, Landon and DaMarcus are a great duo. Arguably, DaMarcus is our best player."

I'm really starting to cringe nowadays whenever Bruce goes on the record.

Yes, we should cringe when beasely, only an adequate player on a Champions League semifinalist and Dutch champion side is our best player.

I'm sorry, I really shouldn't be expecting him to produce anything of substance for the national team. I apologize. He's done most of the required work in Europe, he doesn't need to do jack **** when he comes home. I'm convinced. Let's give him a free spot on the roster for nothing. You're right.

Being sarcastic I hope? "Adequate player" who only scored the most goals of any other player in the CL? Even though he wasn't starting, heah, he sucks... (being sarcastic here)

Only an adequate player? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he score a bunch of goals for Eindhoven in the Eredivision and Champions League until he was injured?

What are you talking about? Beasley has scored 8 goals in 43 matches for the USMNT...compare that to Reyna's 8 goals in 106 matches - and both these guys have done tremendously for the USMNT. What Beasley does for this team, no one esle can do consistently, is bring offense by stretching the defense while playing solid defense coming back disrupting the opposing attack. Beasley did something yesterday that I haven't seen a US player do ever - hold possession of the ball making diagnol runs forcing the opponent to put two men on him. This leaves another US player open. This is how they play in Holland and Spain where making space is necessary to open plays by drawing many defenders to one players skills. Beasley has improved every year, and next year will probably be his best ever. Your arguement that he hasn't done anything for the US is baseless, false, and weak with no support.

And none since his move to PSV.
Just watched one of his diagonal runs...lost the ball. Sure, it creates space, but it's kinda moot at that point if they don't have possession, no?
Yeah, I'm not buying it.

Beasley had a fantastic game last night.
How many USMNT games has he played in since he moved to Holland?

And none since his move to PSV. None? How many games of soccer have you watched in your life? You are saying DMB will not score again for the US since he has moved to PSV. This is laughable because of your ignorance is making you lose any credibility in this thread.

Sure, it creates space....what the? You don't have to buy it, because no one will buy you foolish opinions. You have yet to make one point in his skills or performances that say DMB has not performed as one of the best USMNT players.

Eight out of twelve, if I'm counting correctly. Moved after the Poland game, I think.
I just don't see it. Yes, his game is more flashy and he's got style, but ultimately he has seldom, if ever, built up anything. I don't understand why people aren't more impatient with him, this guy who has gone pretty far in the Champions League and is probably more creative than most players. Makes a pretty good PSV player, I'm sure. The best US player? No, I don't think so.

If that's not sarcasm, it shows a stunning lack of perspective. If a player who gets signifigant time and scores a good number of goals on a Champions League team is our best players now, we're in a hell of a lot better shape then the days when any guy who can even make the squad of any euro team was consider one of our stars, and that wasn't long ago. You don't have to go back more than 4-5 years to get to the point where the US fielded a team with no more than 2-3 players at a time who got any time on the field with a first division team in a big Euro league.
I think Balboa got it right when he called Beasley our most consistent player over the last few years. The kid always shows up, aways gives you a solid game, and is always one of the most dangerous players on the field. His intelligence on the field, combined with his physical gifts and underappreciated skill level, amke him a to player for the US game in and game out. Hell, he burries that chance when the goalie was out instead of hesitating trying to get the ball on his right foot, and his game yesterday would have looked spectacular. He made several dangerous passes, coasted past his defender on many occasions, worked hard, kept possession, found space all over the field. He's a very good player who would get serious consideration on most squads in the world,, and he's still going to be getting better over the nxt few years.

What does that have to do with anything? Are you actually disputing the fact that Beasley hasn't scored any goals for the national team since he went to Europe? And you want me to take you seriously?

I've said it before. I think Beasley is our best player. He needs work on his finishing though, before he makes Landon a clear 2nd.
Beasley can draw fouls in dangerious areas,,if we only had a weapon to deliver on those set pieces
Love Beasley or hate him, we dont have anyone better than him on the flanks so deal with it

He is also the toughest player we have out there. If you watch the replay of the injury he was coming back from, he's lucky to be walking right now. The Ticos were hacking the s**t out of him last night and he stayed in there running circles around them until the 85th minute. If anyone questions what he brings to this team they need to get their head examined. Take a look at the example he sets with his work rate, toughness and technical skill when you combine those three factors, you will be hard pressed to find a better player in the USMNT.

Best player and biggest contributor are completely different things.
I would argue that before WC02 JOB was the best player the USMNT had, period. However being the best player did not mean he had made a significant contribution...yet.
However, he was the best player on the team and should have been on the all cup team instead of Reyna.
DMB may be the best player on the team, but who is going to argue against EJ being a bigger contributor currently?
These are totally different things. Zidane was credited with being the driving force on France's cup winning side, but until the final against Brazil I am not sure if he took a direct part in the creation of any of France's goals. He was still feared for what he could do and praised for it.
And as far as DMB is concerned I want to go back to the Argentina friendly. DMB torched three Argentine players in that friendly and then got fouled pretty hard. After that Argentina fouled him every time he touched the ball. Yesterday Costa Rica simply fouled him over and over and over and over. This is a sign that the opposing teams fear him. Its not his fault if half his touches end up in the ref blowing the whistle.
Although some people seem to think that you need to actually score to have done something. /shrug

I was being sarcastic. Yes, he was one of the better players on PSV. But he didn't score more than any other player in the CL. He did have one of the highest goals 90 minute ratios I think.
