Who came up with that? That was freaking cool!

Oh, how did you manage to deal with the Ohio flag?

The glimpse I saw of it after the second Benedict goal was great.

Looked great--they had a nice, long shot of it after the match, I think as the telecast was going off. Well done.

I'd remembered the 50 Stater after I had gotten home and viewed the thread. My reaction was, "I never saw it." Then I watched the telecast. It was in the next section. :) I never saw it cause I was under the Big Ass Flag at the time.

It looked great. Very well done.

Same here Guy ... but Rishi and I did help Wade fold it up and pack it up so I got the chance to finally see it. Sweet thing and a great job.

... even if the Mass flag was sewed in backwards! :p

Looking at the pictures now it looks great, but I never saw it - I was standing right next to Guy actually. I also didn't realize from my vantage point quite how far over the SA/supporters section went on. Great to see that many folks out.

Wow, that is just too cool. I'm sorry I missed it entirely during the game. I only learned about it after watching my DVR recording of the game yesterday.

Not one person under the 50-state could be categorized as a Sammer.
In fact, every single one of them would be more accurately labeled "newbie".

USian Zealots (nee: Sammers) were exclusively in the bottom half of
S1 & S2. I counted 275-290 standing the whole game.

Sorry Monty, please extend my apologies to all in the Fort for
the transgression. It will be resolved prior to it's next deployment.

I saw this "flag of flags" on TV and was suitably impressed. My exact thoughts were, "Whoa, awesome! I wonder who came up with THAT idea!"

Great job. Will I get to see it live in Columbus against Mexico?

50-state story:

I have dreamed of this item for 15 years. I was born in '66 and one
of my 70's childhood imprints was stamp collecting. The Bicentennial
series which began in '73 or '74 and ran through to '82(?)(Saratoga+200?)
included a sheet of US 13-cent stamps, one for each of the 50 state flags.
I purchased one of the complete sheets in 1976 and it's framed, hanging
on the wall in my home office.

One day 2 years ago, Chaz Soccer emailed me to tell me about an
item on eBay that I might ought to look at, Chaz being quite familiar
with my self-styled title, Inferno Captain of Karmic Vexillology. It turned
out that a former Mutiny Fan, Ron Collins, had the same vision as I. He
simply wanted to see the thing at a match. I never asked him why he
didn't take ownership of it's deployment, but I paid him for it "at his cost",
which included his mother's massive efforts to sew the entire thing together.

Had I commissioned it myself, I would have assembled it with each flag
in order of that state's admission to the union, exactly as the stamps
were ordered on that USPS sheet issued in 1976. I would have used
Nylon flags instead of polyester, and made a couple of other improvements.
Before it's almost-first-use in Dallas last April, I spent $500 to have
header and grommets sewn around the perimeter. It turns out that
was not enough reinforcement.

++++++

As far as any other run-outs this cycle, doubtful.

I was planning to have Elvis & Abao courier said item to Columbus.

However, there were several key learnings from it's maiden flight.

It needs some repairs and significant preventitive maintenance;
the seams and sewing are "display grade". The flags themselves are
polyester, not nylon. Nylon would have been a far more durable and
utilitarian choice, which would have also been a 3-fold increase in the
initial investment. There are about 4 or 5 seams that separated
completely on Saturday. It's going to need to have almost 1000 feet
of header sewn over the top of each seam to get it to game-grade.
Several of the flags snagged and teared, but that's mostly cosmetic
battle scars that would have to be periodically repaired whether
nylon or poly.

Problem:
The repairs are going to increase it's weight and complexity of
accurate and professional deployment, transport, repackaging, and
storage.

In light of the above, and in light of what happend to Ed Kirwan
on Saturday, it's probably only flying again after it's fixed, and
when I can accompany it, neither of which are likely to happen
this year, unfortunately. My goal is to get it ready for Germany
and find 2 or 3 people who are collectively willing to take on the
challenge and responsibility of it's use in Alemania.

I must say Wade sucks. He beat me to it and outdid me on top of that.
While in Korea I had a discussion with some Metro boys about starting a new supporters club and keeping it East Coast since really those were the only games we could get to most of the time. And this was going to be the banner we were going to make. 13 orginials in order joined union plus 2 US flags on each end.

Damn Wade for beating me to the punch!

This lights the fire under my butt to get my "Uncle Sam's Cross" put together.
2x US flags
2x Nevada flags
White "cross" between them:

US | NV
-- | --
NV | US

It'll make for a nice rail hanger.

If I was from Vegas, this is what I would be doing

Make a banner that shows you are from Las Vegas and then have:
"What happens in" LEAVE SPACE ", stays in " LEAVE SPACE

and then using velcro, velcro new pieces of fabric over the spaces with the name of what ever city you are travelling to see the US play in.
