I am just curious, but what if Great Britian put a team on the field. Would this increase the chance of WC success? Help enlighten this ignorant yank and let me know what a possible lineup would be and if it would be something that may happen someday? Thank you.

you're probably trolling, but anyway:

i) it would be the england team plus giggs.

ii) it's not something that anyone (that matters - i.e. not including sepp blatter) wants to happen, and it will never happen.

No I am not trolling, I am asking out of interest. England has a great side, and there are solid players in Scotland and I am just curious as to what kind of team could be put on the pitch.

I would rate Duff above Giggs at the moment. But they could bring Giggs along to the 2006 WC just so he can finally get to a big tournament.

no scottish players would make the squad at the moment, let alone the team.

Right. Forgot he plays for the Irish team that doesn't have 'North' at the front of the name. My fault.

So my point would be "I'm dumb".

I don't know if any of you realise it but there have been two Great Britain teams to have played against "The Rest of Europe" (That was back when the Scots had a football team :) ) Once in 1947 and again in 1955, only two players featured in both matches. One a Scot, Billy Liddell of Liverpool and the other was Englands Stanley Mathews (Sir Stanley that is)

First match was won by the Brits 6-1 and the second by the ROE 4-1. According to Liddell, the Euros had found out how to score.

Any chance of Bellamy and Maik Taylor in the 23.

Those two are possible contenders.
99% of the squad would be english.
none of the sweaty team would get in the B team let alone the A team.

if it's going to be a squad of 23 then yeah probably maik talyor would get in, i wouldn't pick bellamy though. rooney/owen/defoe would be my first three choices, so there's little point picking bellamy, another small quick striker with poorer finishing than owen and defoe.

in fact i'd rather take hartson than bellamy because you could lump the ball up to him and play a different way with him on the pitch.

not that i would take hartson, just to clarify.

who would be the manager ?......if it was Sven, he would never pick pain in the arse bellamy anyway.....Sven already had one look at bowyer, mc stiffaman, and decided he'd rather not deal with that kind of problem....

...what games you watching son ? Michael Owen (32 goals for England) age 25 will end up as the all time leading English goalscorer......to say he's a "poor finisher" beggars belief....

He's saying that Bellamy's finishing isn't as good as Owen and Defoe.

Without wanting to get into a discussion about the nuances of the English language the implication is that Owen and Defoe's finishing is poor and Bellamys is worse.
