Hello, long time reader, first time poster. Anyways, I've seen a lot of down people on here talking about how our team hasn't hit the big time (despite going to the QF in last world cup) and how our players aren't good enough or skilled enough, etc for the rest of the world powers. Sometimes I think this might be overanalyzed...
For example, look at the second goal England scored in last weeks game. I don't care how many hours of practice or schooling from any country a player has, if Eddie Pope lets the ball roll right over his foot to a surging striker it's doesn't matter. That mistake was inexcusable and cost the US the game more than likely.
The only reason I am making this observation is because I've listened to so many people come up with an assortment of things that the U.S needs to do to be competitive with teams like England when we basically could have tied or won the game by not letting a ball roll right past a defender on a horrible play.
I know that was just England's "C" team supposedly but it looked to me like the US's "B" team was pretty damn good in that game.
To conclude, I am not tryin to be cynical and stir anything with this first post, I just wanted to make and observation and try and put things in a little perspective.
Thanks and have a good day,
Kevin
