So, I'm watching Sky Sports News on FSC last night and I see a promo for Saturday morning's World Cup Qualifier between Scotland and, I kid you not, Moldavia! Not only is it spelled Moldavia, but the promo announcer says "Moldavia".

How in the world did that get through??

Then, later last night, while I'm watching Chivas vs. Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores, the Gatorade scoreboard comes on at the bottom of the screen. In National League baseball, Atlanta was losing to Montreal! I wasn't sure when the Nationals returned to Montreal, but I'm thinking it would've made lots of DC United fans happy! :D

Memo to whoever is in charge of promos and scoreboards at Fox in LA...accuracy!

I'm a stickler for detail as well but Moldavia is the former name of Moldova and as far as I can tell they're used pretty much interchangeably.

Kind of like how people often say "THE Ukraine" or "Byelorussia" for those former Republics. Definitely something that needs to be corrected since the SU has been totally disintegrated for some time. Then again, I got a Ph.D. at University of North Texas, and people still call us North Texas State University all the time even though our name changed in 1989. I always reply with--you can call us NTSU as long as you call that school down in Tallahassee "Florida State College for Women." :)
