I think the USSF should launch a law suit against Reyna and Lewis who don't want to play against CR and Panama for whatever reason, eventhough the USSF has given contracts that the players association asked following the strike months ago. What do you'll think ?

I think you're an idiot.

They just got done with a grueling English season and they're both coming off injuries or surgery.

You can only squeeze so much out of a player who's 30+

How long is enough for a european league's player to rest ? don't you think 2 weeks is all they need to rest ?

Let's see, they've been playing non-stop for the last 10 months and they've both been injured during the season (including an appendectomy recently for Lewis, who played an unreal 44 games this sason).

So, I'm gonna say no.

I nominate this for one of the most inane threads ever started. Please!!

Maybe you should ask the Brazilian soccer federation to sue Ronaldo as well.

I need to ask this question: Is the USSF currently paying Reyna and Lewis? Does the USSF HAVE to play or even pay them when they say they are ready to play??

Actually.. this thread is sort of a gem in a way. I laughed hard when I saw it. I think we should give it a sticky

GOOOOOLZ, listen, I don't want to sound condescending or disrespectful, but there will be a time when Reyna and Lewis won't play, regardless of fitness, because they'll be too old. And we'll have to play other players if we want to qualify for the World Cup, so in order to make sure Reyna and Lewis's replacements are ready to play well and help win critical matches for the US in the Hex Phase, other people need experience. Other Players. Not the same aging players all the time.

BTW, this also applies to Cobi Jones. Why? because those players over 30 tend to Retire. I know it some weird epidemic where Footballers reach the mid 30s and stop playing for their national team. And see if the young players who are getting older, don't get enough experience, then national teams Under perform in Major Tournaments. And we dont' want that. So as good as Reyna and Lewis are; they can't play All the F'N time. So calm down. Thank you.

Does that mean the USSF can sue Wolff for bringing that thing he called a game last weekend to the table?

And now that I think about it how MLS going after ChivasUSA for acting like a Pro team?

I'm sure there's others.

The real reason for Eddie's absence has not been made public but it's probably a lot to do with his son being born with a birth defect (a genetic desease?). It's been mentioned in passing in a few articles, so when someone says "family reasons" at this juncture, then I presume that's what it is.

I suspect Lewis's absence is due to family problems, and maybe his child's disability. I really can't blame him for that. If I were a player, I know that ultimately, I too would put my family first.

I find Reyna's absence to be really curious, though. Here you've got the captain of the U.S. team, deciding he's going to sit out two crucial U.S. world cup qualifiers, because he's either tired and needs the rest, or wants to be with his club team during their preseason (I can't remember, now, what the actual reason is that Reyna gave)! Either way, that's not something you want to see from the captain of your team -- I want the captain of our team to bleed red white and blue, and to want to play for us in a crucial world cup qualifier no matter how tired he is from playing club ball (hell, all of our players who play their club ball in Europe are just as tired, but they still show up for the qualifiers). Even though he's aging, Reyna still is one of the most skilled players we have on our roster, and it boggles my mind that we just let one of our most skilled players sit out two critical world cup qualifiers (and these are critical world cup qualifiers -- playing costa rica at home and panama away are both games we should win, but will need to play on top of our game to win).

That being said, I don't think the solution is for the USSF to sue Reyna.

I agree with HF. Adding more curiosity to it, I don't think Reyna even gave reason. not even a made up one. If he did, I missed it. Seems to me he just didn't want to bother. Sue him? Of course not, but it does rub me the wrong way. He could at least "say" the requisite "right things" about "long season" and "exhaustion" and "new club manager." Maybe that would only make me feel better and Claudio doesn't owe me anything, or maybe he did say this and I just missed it, but until corrected, it doesn't seem to fit with what the US captain should do. I do not think it is petulence over being benched for Guatemala (wan't there a slight knock there?), but I guess that's a small possibility even less becoming a captain.

Reyna has been injured so long he is being careful for his livelyhood and maybe feels he needs to get in much better shape to prevent his reoccuring problems. His last two runouts for the Nats have been poor by everyones standards and he shouldn't have played. If he doesn't feel he is up to it and is maybe saving what he has left for future games is a roll of the dice. I feel that he realizes that at this stage of his career he needs to be very calculated in what games he will participate in order to stay healthy and most effective for his nation and his club team. Not an easy decision to make but something he must think about at this stage. If he came in and was not effective he would certainly be hammered on these boards but more importantly would let his country down. This is all no surprise since he stated as much after the last cup. We need to groom the youngsters and we should be able to handle Costa Rica without him. Or do you want to call in Dooley?

I think the USSF should sue Ronaldinho for not being a US citizen.
