I'm just floating this out there to see if there's any interest in it, so here it goes. I used to be in a fantasy league a few years ago known as he EFFA, Eurpean Fantasy Football Association. It was based on AOL, but we had our own website at effafootball.com and our own forum on the site. We had a league commish and two divisions with 12 teams in each division. We had some people owning two teams, but we tried to keep it at a minimum. All teams had to come from European leagues and must come from the 1st division of each league. We wouldn't want a Barcelona playing against Rushden & Diamonds.
The games were simmed by the league commish and he would write up a game summary with bookings, scoreline and more. It was very detailed. Each team would make money from each home game so that they can use the money for either player purchases, transfer fees etc. There were player transactions, which either came by trade, bosman or a financial transfer. All player transactions were approved by the commisioner. We tried to keep it as real as possible, so if a players contract was up in real life it was up in the EFFA as well (when the league first started we abided by the bosman that is). What was fun was that we had a lot of the team "owners" filling in the blanks, as in they would release press releases stating that there were rumors of a player leaving, announcing new sponsorships, a player opening his own restaurant, etc.
Some other things we did so the teams could make money was have a "tv deal" with Sky sports so all teams could share in part of the tv deal. each team also choose what kit sponsors and shirt sponsors they had and we had a pre-approved list that would detail how much they got. I.E. if they choose Nike they would get $2 million a year, Adidas $2.5 a year. We didn't announce how much they'd get until they put in a bid and the commisioner approved it. We would try to keep it real by having legimimate shirt sponsors, as in a Real Madrid team wouldn't have TIM as a sponsor because TIM was in Italy and had no presence in Spain.
Many participants had their own team websites where they kept their team news and so forth as well.
Let me know if you're interested in doing something like this. I could be commish and run the games. I have also mocked up a site (below) to show you what it would look like.. The only thing I would ask is that all participants contribute $3 (or more if they'd like) so I can buy a url and webhosting so I can put up the page and put up a forum so we could have something like I described above. I'd be looking to have two divisions or 12 teams each and would be looking for dedicated owners. I'd like to start up soon so we can get all the teams organized and then start the transfer season. I'd like to coincide the start of the season to the start of the European season.
Here's a preview and how the site would look. (http://www.redstarmultimedia.com/EFFA2)
If you're interested and you're willing to host for free even better. I would like to keep the costs down to a bare minimum. I am also looking for dedicated people only. On average an owner would have to put in about 5 minutes MINIMUM a week, while most used to put in up to 30 minutes a week. They used to write their own press releases and everything, that's why I'm looking for committed people.
So... if you're interested let me know by posting here, IMing me or PMing me.
Thanks
