My son is 17 and is traveling with his school soccer teammates to Scotland next week. They'll all be there for one week and will be staying with host families, playing a few games against teams of similar ages. It's recommended that each of our team members bring a gift of some sort for each host family. My wife and I are wondering what might be an appropriate gift. Does anyone have a recommendation for a gift the whole host family might enjoy? We're trying to avoid food items of any kind. Are there any items you might recommend that are easy for U.S. citizens to come across that are harder for Scotland citizens to acquire?

Our son is very much looking forward to visiting Scotland and we'd like to show our appreciation for the hospitality he'll surely be shown while there.

Thanks in advance.

If he's staying in Glasgow, how about a bar of soap and a pair of shoes?

Ha cheeky wanker.

If it was fife he was visiting he'd need a good roll of sturdy tinfoil and a supply of clean needles.

Anyways on topic, no idea, but id just send like a small ornament or other token gift.

How about one of your local landmarks in ornament form? Or Mountain Dew, I used to love that stuff!

Bring some employment and send it to Inverclyde :(

Scottish_Morton has the right idea. Whereabouts in the US are you from? Granted if it's somewhere pointless like Nebraska you might struggle, but I'm sure there are interesting gift ideas near you.
