Some good stuff in here. The way he described DMB seems a bit different than the poster who's been at practices. I think saying he's day-to-day is a clever approach. His presence or absence will have a big effect. No sense in giving it away.
Connoly also states without qualification that Pope is starting; Wolff too. Cherundolo is characterized as a maybe who could be replaced by..........Hejduk.

if correct, and i would guess that Connolly is "in the know," it's a little surprising. i'm going to wait until i see who the starting 11 are come saturday.

Great quote from Arena:
"Bobby's been slapped in the face pretty hard from his first year with Reading," said Arena. "However, I think he's learned from it. He's been in camp now for a week-and-a-half, and he's played pretty well. So I would not look at the situation at Reading and say that it's destroyed him as a player. I think it's made him step back and evaluate where he is and what he has to do to get on the field on a regular basis for Reading, and what he needs to do to make his mark with the national team.

NEVER believe a pregame press report.
There is a reason most coaches don't make statements about who will start till they absolutly have to. Gamesmenship starts well before the whistle to start the match. Connerly may be spot on or he may not. We won't know till game time

listen to the conference call (http://ussf.podlot.com/Bruce_CostaRica_PreGameConferenceCall.mp3) on ussoccer...then I suspect you'll know as much as he does. (those quotes came from the cc).

Actually, "Wolff as a starter" is qualified by EJ not recoveing from his turf toe injury.
Brian McBride and either Johnson - if he can recover from a turf toe injury he suffered last week - or Josh Wolff,
BTW, thanks for the link.

'dolo has beaten out hejduk in my mind & in most of the people in big soccer's mind but apparently not in arena's mind.
as far as i remember, he started ahead of 'dolo in all the June-Oct qualies. he hasn't featured since then, but he also hasn't really been available. the mls was out of season during the T&T qualie, he was injured for Mex & Guat, and he was with his club during the England friendly.

man, what did 'dolo do to have his spot even questioned?
I love Frankie ... but, c'mon. Steve has ended that competition.

Didn't he write a piece ahead of the Mexico match saying that Albright would start?

if those in fact do turn out to be the moves Arena makes for formulating the lineup for Saturday, he's either pulling a Shaq (before a game, telling reporters the complete opposite of what he already knows he will do), or his brain is so slow it's left his mind in a "backwards" state
(if you ask any 10 people who use this site, they'll tell you pope and wolff should sit out and cherundolo should play - go figure)

Wow, I didn't realize how many regulars were out. If wecan win this one it will show a decent ability to battle it out. I hope Noonan and the other possible starters come out blasting.

(i actually meant to say, if you ask any 10 people who use this site, 9 of them will tell you... etc.)
by the way, tomorrow being the day before the match, the starting lineup could be posted on www.ussoccer.com in any case, it's just 1 day away - there's no harm in finding out at gametime (i guess)

AP post workout today (http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=ap-wcup-uspractice&prov=ap&type=lgns)
Bruce Arena won't know if three regulars will be available for the U.S. team's World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica until after practice on Friday.
After watching injured midfielders John O'Brien (calf) and DaMarcus Beasley (knee) and forward Eddie Johnson (toe) have a good week of training, Arena said he expects the U.S. team to be at almost full strength for Saturday's game.
The players and their injuries will be evaluated Friday, and Arena said he would then make a decision about whether they will play.
Bruce! Let the gamesmanship begin.

... Bruce! Let the gamesmanship begin. After Grenada was allowed that last second sub despite having already announced a different line-up an hour earlier, Bruce isn't taking any chances.

Im surprised none of you said anything about this quote about John O'Brien:
"I'm hopeful that each and every day he gets a little bit better, and he has been, and there is a chance he could help us against Panama, but is more likely he would help us in the Gold Cup."
So Johnny's goin to the Gold Cup!
Thats news to me!

He might be going, but I doubt he'll play. I'd put money on it.

Great quote from Arena:
i'd like to slap him in the face too....but gotta respect him for being one the best practice players the u.s. has ever produced
