I see that this weekend will have Sedan (Ligue 2) vs. Auxerres (Ligue 1). Why is Auxerres selected and not the winner of Ligue 1? What is the significance of this finale game?
The game is on TV5 this weekend and I'd like to know what/why I am watching.
Thanks! Championnat Newbie

The cup is a separate competition which includes not only L1 clubs but also lower division clubs. There are no favorites etc., so if a team from the minor ranks, such as Sedan, knocks out major league opponents, they get to move on while the big boys go home. Auxerre and Sedan are simply the only two clubs that have managed to not lose a single game in the cup.

La Finale de la Coupe de France = French Cup Final.
Simply the final of the Cup. Erm.....of France!
Bit late this year, but that's because there is no Euros or WC.
On a lighter note, I should really have bumped that thread back up. See, that's what you what you get when you don't pay your taxes!

Pretty much like the English FA Cup and the US "Open Cup"

what i wish is that the curtain raiser was on TV instead of the CdF final... it's the final of the coupe gambardella (U-18 cup) between toulouse and lyon. now that would be fun...
