With the Tony Blair All Stars out of town the US returns to the business of World Cup Qualification, hosting Costa Rica in Salt Lake City this Saturday night. The US is 2-1-0 with six points from 3 games, sitting in second place behind only Mexico on the road to Germany. Costa Rica is in third place, tied with Guatemala on four points. It’s going to be a big game, so make sure you get out to Hale’s to see it. Salt Lake is ramping up for the fixture, having installed grass on top of their Astroturf and reinstating their popular ticket promotion, “Second Wife Gets in Free Night.” (kidding).
The game is on ESPN2 live at 7:30PM, and is followed by the Metrostars hitting the road to take on the L.A. Galaxy. The Metro game is live at 10:00PM on MSG, as the red and black head to LA to play a team coached by Steve Sampson. So there’s 3 points.
Come down, hang out, down a few beers and watch a nights worth of soccer. There will be assorted beer specials on hand, pub fare and Metro & US Soccer fans in the house. The US has every reason to expect a win here, and the Metro road form has been nothing short of Chelsea-esque. Please come out, spend an evening with the boys and cheer our teams to victory. Or, get bombed trying, anyway.
Nathan Hale's is conveniently located near the 1/2/3/4/5/6/9/A/C/E/J/M/Z/R/W and Path trains in downtown Manhattan. (Chambers St./Park Place/City Hall stops).
Nathan Hale’s is the one and only bar for US Soccer fans, the only bar in New York City committed to showing Metrostars and US National Team Soccer. MAKE SURE YOU GET OUT TO SUPPORT THE ONLY BAR THAT SUPPORTS METRO and US SOCCER.
Note about the midweek US WCQ game: The US takes on Panama in Panama City, but the game is scheduled to be shown on delay at 11:30pm on Telemundo and on ESPN2 at 1AM. In all likelihood, this will prevent us from doing a match viewing, but we will update you if that changes.
2. Metrostars vs. DC United, Sunday June 12, 2005- 6:00 PM
Thanks to Italy- Ecuador, it’s the return of the positively surreal 6pm Sunday games as the Metrostars take on DC in the first steel cage death match of the season.
In case it had slipped your mind, we absolutely hate these effing guys. Our section is only able to provide the loud and full support of our team when all of us show up, so please make it a point to skip church and head out to Giants Stadium next Sunday.
After the dramatic golazo from Guevara last game, the team has broken the home duck and is looking to start a winning streak at the swamp. It would be great to have a rocking and loud section 101 on hand for some metro payback, singing them out of the stadium. They have no Nelsen, no Petke and their goalkeeper is a midget. No reason why we can’t kill these guys. Get out there.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you.
