Sure, I want to win every time the US steps on the field, but it's amusing to see three_lions get such a boner over beating something not even remotely resembling our first team by one goal.
I'm not delusional, I know England would beat the US 4 out of 5 times, but perhaps it's more of a commentary on the state of English football that he's this excited about it.

nicodemus is a clown :D That was pretty much the USA's first choice team and they were shown to be very mediocre indeed. In particular the so-called "World Class" Landon Donovan looked out of his depth again.

You going to follow me around all day posting about something you have no idea about? You're two for two so far.

If this is a C team, can you tell me who the B team's players are ? i think these are B players ( except Cole & Cole, james, Smith ) who are in the proccess of moving up to senior level.

Putting aside the 'A' players like Ferdinand, Lampard, Rooney, Owen, Gerrard, G Neville, Robinson, Owen and Beckham.
About a hundred centre backs and fullbacks - Carragher, King (also used at centre mid), Terry (if considered behind Campbell still) Upson, Samuel, Bridge, Woodgate etc..
Midfielders - Wright-Phillips, Downing, Parker, Hargreaves, Dyer
Attackers - Defoe should have started with Smith
In many respects this wasn't even an England C team, it was weaker than that.

It was inevitable that someone would come on here to rub our faces in the dirt. Look, England is clearly a better side. That's not a revelation. And whether this was England's C side or D side or our B side or C side doesn't matter much, now does it. You guys won, fair and square. What's more important is that both coaches got to assess certain players. Compared to England, the development of the U.S. program is still very much a work in progress. And I still believe that there is a gap between the top 7-8 nations and the next rung of teams. Nevertheless, we're coming along.

Three Lions, I commend you on a brilliant observation. The youth of England have stepped up and shown us why we proudly support England. The youth of England put on a brilliant display of ball control and technical ability unmatched by the US. The US did have penetration in the second half, but only after most of the world class defense had been rested.
I remember a few months ago, Three Lions stated that England would show the US a clinic..and thats exactly what happened, the US got schooled.
Sendoranges, your points are brilliantly made as well.
Im England till I die...

Thx man. U tx for the nice words. This thread is not intended to rub faces in the dirt or anything like that. The U.S. team are making strides at improving in football and I commend them. This thread is to pay tribute to The England Team and Sven for playing his young players and getting a good training friendly in. England prides themselves in the development of the young soccer players, and I see a bright future ahead for them as we saw today.

No, he's lost his place to John Terry.

Right about the first paragraph, wrong about the 2nd.
If England-US played full strength 4 or 5 times, it would be more like 3 wins England, 1 win US, and 1 tie. Maybe even 2 wins, 2 tie, 1 loss.
In a WC knockout, ties would mean penalties- so that's a tossup if it comes to that. So 3/1/1 becomes almost 3/2.
England is better (of course), but in a WC scenario, not so comfortably so...Certainly not enough to 'nah nah nah, boo boo'.
Brazil is about the only team in the world that can say, 'fawrk off' to almost anyone..

I'm surprised at your optimism. US had quite a few C players on the pitch, and, in comparison, I thought the English C looked lazy and didn't impress. They looked of better quality, of course (they play in Premiership, and not MLS) but if you can't show it more than a few minutes during a 90 minute match-something's wrong. US controlled ball much of the match. US created more chances.
I woulda understood Beckham and Owen getting beat to balls, and getting outplayed. What do they have to prove? But not youngsters trying to impress Sven. I don't know why any young English player yesterday, save Richardson, believes he improved his standing yesterday.
Its a total myth that US played its A team. We had 4 A teammers (outside of goal) and England had 3. We each had several C teammers...

Hey jri,
If people want to think this was our "A" team, let them. It's more advantagous for us in the long run.

If England played the US 5 times, England would win 5 times. This was the USA's best ever chance of beating England in the next 20 years at least, and they weren't even close. There is a huge gulf, but as usual the sam's army clowns desperately try and invent a parity that does not remotely exist.
So much for the World Class Landon Donovan and the other jokers. England won at half pace and with a team of kids thrown together at the last minute.
