Nice to see some young players get a go but I wanted to see Defoe start, that would of been great and a good chance to establish himself in the England team. Crouch and Johnson seems a interesting partnership, big and small man.

Its nice to see an experimentle team being used in this friendly, even if some would have got nowhere near the team if we had anything like a full squad to choose from. It will certainly be interesting to see how they perform (I won't see it though, I'll be out getting drunk).

Defoe and Johnson are too similar to play together up front. They are both very short, quick strikers. Peter Crouch at least offers something different.

The question you should be asking is why Defoe isn't starting over Johnson.

....and the answer is....Sven knows what Defoe can do and he is part of the picture....now he needs to know what Johnson can do...

I can't help looking at this line-up and thinking that England should still win this game.

Man-for-man that is still considerably better than the US line-up, even without so many top players

Defoe should definitely be starting this game though, Sven is mad to leave him out..

The back 8 are actually quite decent. Its the front pairing thats, uh, crap.
Although I think Richardson isn't that good and that Jenas is really overrated. And Carrick's not any better than Scott Parker. But it could be worse. Just hope Wes Brown doesn't turn the ball into your net. Plus I'd worry about starting a defender who was outstripped for pace this year by Alan Shearer.

At least Sven had a excuse back then he needed to see what the players were made off. This is just a money grabbing exercise. :(

A damn shame that. Perhaps now Defoe can show us all some magic and goals.

Just to confirm that Alan Smith replaces Crouch, i would of like to see Defoe but it will be nice to see Smith get a game.

I still find it absurd that Crouch was going to play in the first place.

Erm, do you mean Brown? He is pretty quick, and pocketed Shearer in both of the Newcastle games towards the end of the season.
