I dont think they should be allowed in next years CL. At the end of the day winning the World Cup doesnt buy you a ticket to the next one so why should they make an exception for Liverpool.

whether or not they will be in next year's CL, dosen't mean they weren't the best from this years. But it is kinda of dumb that the champ won't be able to defend its cup, because I believe Liverpool could have done a little better in EPL if they hadn't been playing in CL as well.

i think the winner of any cup should be able to defend their title
just like in the world cup
i dont know why they changed this though in the WC
now its only the home team

It did for God knows how many years son. Brazil are the first reigning champions to ever have to try and qualify. Having a competition without the defending champions devalues the competition, but then again I'm bound to say that aren't I.

Five clubs from one country is too much.Soon, Champions league places will be found in packets of crisps. How about making Everton and Liverpool play off for Englands final place?.That would be fun!

It is too much isn't it, but because the FA or UEFA or whoever we are supposed to be blaming are so short sighted, this mess has occurred. You can't deny Everton because they qualified as it had been declared at the start the 4th place team would, and surely you can't deny the reigning champions.
My solution is for Liverpool to take AC Milan's place in next years competition as they are obviously so much betterer. What are your feelings on that Italia4life?

It's not final until all the teams are actually entered. The FA will be under pressure from Liverpool (I heard Benitez on spanish radio last night and he was mightily pissed off- about this, he was quite happy about everything else) until the last minute - now the question is can they screw Everton? I'm not familiar with the workings of the FA, but the spanish federation would do it without blinking.

The FA really dropped the ball here. They should have made their decision before the season started, not a month before it ended.
It would be cool to have a playoff b/w L'pool and Everton, but only if they had decided before the season began that IF the CL winner is below 4th place, then we have a playoff b/w #4 and CL winniner...

Liverpool deserve the opportunity to defend, imho. But Everton doesn't deserve to be deprived of European football for the second time in 20 years by Liverpool either. Both should go. Just like Zaragoza should have gone back when Real won the CL despite being in 5th place in LaLiga.

Welsh club TNS have offered Liverpool the chance to play them for their spot in the first qualifying round.

The TNS offer won't fly, guys, and neither will the 5th team idea. The FA will have to make a very clear decision (without appealing to the goodwill of UEFA and crap like that) and pick one team.

The FA picked Everton ages ago, they will not back down.

Quite right too. Everton earned their spot.
