So, Liverpool has won. Will they play in the next editions of the CL?
Keep four things in mind:
1) the FA has said they won't invite them with one of their current 4 slots.
2) nothing the FA has said is final until the FA actually nominates the teams
3) a 5th team for England is not allowed under current UEFA statutes. they need to be changed before a 5th team can be entered.
4) The CL champion has ALWAYS come back in its 50-year history
I'm interested in what you think WILL happen, not what you think SHOULD happen.

UEFA should keep the English participation in the Champion's League to 4 teams, Liverpool deserve and should play in next year's CL, but if they don't then it's the fault of the English FA.
Four teams from one nation is enough (for some too many) 5 would be ridiculous.

It's UEFA's fault not the FA's.

It's your mother's fault, if you actually belief that.

According to Sky Sports - UEFA is to hold a meeting on Thursday about this situation. If the Champions of Europe are not invited to take part next year it makes a mockery of the "Champions League".

The English FA have always couched their words about it, hoping not to have to make a decision. My feeling is UEFA will keep it to four EPL teams and the FA will stick to last seasons rule; that winning the ECL trumps finishing fourth (or second for that matter). This will mean Chelsea and Liverpool automatically qualify with Man U and Arsenal entering pre-qualifying.

Tough one. Although it seems everyone feels they should be there (including me), it would be hard to accommodate. The tournament is set up for a certain number of teams. Unless they work out a "bye" system, or add more teams, hard to do.
If they do allow Liverpool, it's only fair that they start from the first round.
PS - Liverpool were awesome!

Think about what the TV networks want. Of course Liverpool will go in as the 5th team.

I'm pretty sure Uefa will put Liverpool in the champions league next season but will make them enter a qualifiying round. I'm not sure about England having 5 teams, i'd be fun we did get 5 teams :D but i an't see the F.A saying no to Everton so mabey there will be 5 teams :)

Everton are in it next year full stop.
Liverpool may play Germany or France's third spot in qualifying maybe, that makes sense.

The rules say if this situation arises in any league with only 1/2/3 places and the CL winner from that league finishes outside the top 3 they will be enterd as a additional team.So they have obviously got a way of fitting A "extra" team in.
It also discriminates against 4 team leagues with 4 cl places this rule.Liverpool lawyers will win. :)

What do I think will happen to Liverpool next season?
They'll draw Milan in the group stages and will get castrated accordingly......just kidding.
I think Everton will fight for their CL spot to the death. After all we're talking about alot of money that would be of important use to any self-financed clubs.

FA said Everton are in it no matter what.
Uefa can not stop Everton entering, they send 4 invitations thats it.

I think that the top 4 teams should be in it. They earned their berth on the field so why take it from them?
I feel for Liverpool cause they should have the chance to defend their title, but since they didn't finish in the top 4 in England should they get to jump over a team that played better then them over the course of a full season just cause they won it this year? I am not so sure they should.
BTW, a big congrats to Liverpool for coming back and winning that match.

They can't give England another spot because then it would be unfair for 1 team which misses out because of it.Liverpool don't deserve to qualify.

What so England can potentially get 5 teams in and either France or Germany only get 2 teams in ? F that that's not fair. Liverpool should play a team from a lower ranked country because France and Germany's 3rd team have earned the right to play a weaker team in qualifying. Their 3rd team doesnt deserve to potentially not make it at the expense of a good team in the best league.

If the current champion (that would be Liverpool!) does not go into the next CL season, then the 2006 championship will be devalued.

4) is not true. The 1993 winner Olympique Marseille couldn't defend their title because they were excluded for a bribary scandal.
The rules say maximum 4 teams, so the English FA should choose between Everton and Liverpool, as the Spanish FA had to choose between Real Madrid and Real Zaragoza in 2000.
If UEFA would now decide that England gets 5 teams in CL, that would be completely unfair for Real Zaragoza, because they couldn't participate in 2000-01. So it's not UEFA's fault if Liverpool can't defend their title, their rules are clear. It is up to the English FA.
