Filmmaker Ismail Merchant, who with partner James Ivory became synonymous with classy costume drama in films such as "A Room With A View" and "Howards End," died Wednesday. He was 68.
It's great when a filmmaker like this kicks it, because we don't have to watch any more of his crappy films.

You usually don't troll, so instead of ignoring this post I thought I'd respond.
This post is absolutely friggin' ludicrous.
Celebrating someone's death just because you don't like their films? C'mon. Zarqawi might just want to get chummy with you.
I'm not a fan of Merchant/Ivory fans either, but I'd never dance on someone's grave just because I didn't care for their films.
And who said you "had" to watch their films in the first place? If you don't like 'em, don't watch 'em. Idiot.

I'm not celenbrating his death. I'm just glad he can't make any more films.
I should have said, "The good thing about a filmmaker like this kicking it..."

That's cool. But who cares whether or not he can make any more films? If he was still alive and still making films, just don't watch them. It's really quite easy. :)
Here's a short list of entertainers/celebs that I can't stand and still manage to ignore:
Rush Limbaugh
Jim Rome
Brittany Spears
Jerry Springer
Michael Savage
Fran Drescher
... and many more
No matter how great the temptation is to check out that which you hate (like checking out the carnage of a roadside crash), it's soooooo much better to have the dicsipline to ignore the stuff.
Or are you actually a closet Merchant/Ivory fan? Do you have the extended DVD version of "Howard's End", which you watch over and over? ;) Yeah, I think that's it!

I hope everyone I hate dies. It's not like human life is that special; there's 6 billion people on earth.

The guy was exec producer on The Remains Of The Day, one of the greatest films ever about loyalty. That more than makes up for the cack that is Room With A View. RIP.

Merchant was a big promoter of Satyajit Ray, so he wasn't all terrible.

Remains of the Day was actually an excellent film. It was one of Anthony Hopkins' best films.
