Years ago, I used to run to a tape that began with "Ace of Spades," but I stopped using it when I realized I was running to the pace of the drum beat, which was a little quick for me.
Funkadelic's "Wars of Armageddon" is a good one.
If you're using the tunes for weight lifting, you need something with some testosterone, like Jesus Lizard or Van Halen.

This depends on what kind of pace you like to make for yourself. I love hip-hop too and pretty much any uptempo hip-hop song that you like will work.
Personally, I find that I like my workout music a little faster and more aggressive than that, because it pushes me to go harder. I have a few go-to albums on my Ipod for my half-hour on the elliptical:
The Hives - Tyrannosaurus Hives (The first four or five songs are insane, and there isn't a better song on the planet for a last sprint than "Abra Cadaver".)
Rites of Spring - End on End
At The Drive-In - Relationship of Command
Scream - Still Screaming/This Side Up
Minor Threat - Complete Discography
Supergrass - I Should Coco

Is the new album any good at all? Toxicity was incredible, but that new single couldn't suck harder if Nick Lachey sang on it.

Any work out tape should have "Strut" by Sheena Easton.
That's right. I said it.

You can't go wrong with Mr. Excitement himself:

Honestly ... how badass do you have to be to be called "Mr. Excitement?" Jackie Wilson ruled.
