I'm sure there are some posts/articles about this but I haven't seen any... What effect will Glazier's timing have on our ability to attract/sign the best players?
It will likely be several weeks before the details of the LBO are completed. SAF came out in the papers saying he's ready to talk transfer with Glazier and get the ball rolling - but, realistically, when will Glazier have the time? I just cannot imagine that Glazier's time is open enough to pay attention to transfers right now.
I know it also brings up another point - has the team too much turmoil right now for the big players to join us? Put yourself in Essien's shoes: you're a future star and the target of all the major clubs. One club in particular is attractive to you (United) but all of the press lately is about how United is going into crazy debt and are in flux. Would you choose the team who's future is in doubt (if you believe all the press clippings) or would you choose a team with a solid future? I think most would coose teams who do not have crisis currently and team's that have shown they are willing to spend the big $$$ to attract the best players to play with you.
I think that Essien (or any top player) would be taking a huge risk coming to United at the moment - and I think we'll see the effects of the negative press Shareholder's United has put out there. not to put down SU in any way but they have been instrumental in attacking Glazier's bid/LBO - they have really done a great job getting the facts out there. However, because of this press onslaught and subsequently Galzier's successful LBO, we'll probably pay for this press by not being as attractive to new signings.
