I think Nekounam is a done deal, although with the crappy defense things may have changed. They really need one of two defenders who can start and bring leadership to the chaos in the back. With a better defense they would be at least mid-table.

I think Kaiserslautern could use all the help the can get. Zivkovic is a step up from what they have, although they should have kept Knavs, he's a quality defender still in Salzburg.


Knavs? FCK tried to keep Knavs. He wasn't having it.

Knavs went to Bochum before moving to Salzburg.

Knavs wanted out of Kaiserslautern before he left there and refused to extend with them.

So, FCK had no choice in that matter........

Maybe they "should" have kept Knavs, but reality is that they could not.

Not in time to help. If they survive and Trappatoni isn't fired this season by Stuttgart (Which I think he will be), FCK might be able to get Babbel.

I think the only teams who would need him would be one of the promoted teams and if Nowotny is actually done (Which I think he is), Leverkusen might go in for Babbel until they can get a younger defender.

Not a bad defender IMHO. Certainly better than whatever Lautern has right now ;)

I don't know that FCK can honestly do anything. It's not like they have a ton of money to spend.

They might not have any.......

rumour says that nekounam just signed with some arab club, so what seemed to be a done deal got ********ked :mad:

New transfer rumours in german newspapers during the last days.

Lautern ist linked to Boris Zivkovic of VFB Stuttgart (30, defender, played in leverkusen for a long time) and
Balazs Borbely of FC Artmedia Bratislava (defender).

Coach Wolf said in an interview that he told nine! players that they could leave the club during the winter break or find themselves in FCK´s second team. He didn´t tell the names but Riedl, Göktan, Wenzel, Jancker, Mettomo and Zandi are surely on the list.

Christian Nerlinger ended his carreer.

He is not available until May now. He signed a 6 month $1 million deal with a team in the UAE. My guess is the state of the team had a lot to do with it, and the offer of a ton of money was icing on the cake. I know a lot of Iranian National Team followers are unhappy with this deal because he is playing at a such a low level in the run up to the world cup.

Kaiserslautern picked up two players until the end of the season on loan:

Slovakian player named Balázs Borbély (26, defensive midfield)

Norwegian Jon Inge Hřiland (28, right defender)

Borbély takes the place that Nekounum was going to fill. There are rumors of one or two more defenders, Slovakian Stanislav Varga (33) from Celtic and Boris Zivkovic of VFB Stuttgart (30).
