There is a press release on the UEFA site announcing that the Champions League final will be broadcast in 1080i HDTV w/ surround sound, available to all CL partners throughout the planet, for the first time. Will they use this HDTV signal on ESPN2 HD?
Edit: Nope, not listed.

ESPN2 HD is almost as elusive as Deportes. Definitely a bummer that this hi-def feed is going to be out there and we can't see it...oh well, with time...?

If you believe what Ollie says, ESPN2 will stop showing CL games, making all the games only available on ESPN Deportes. And since there's no ESPN Deportes HD...

I wonder if HDTVs are really very common in South America or the Pacific Rim, which are the other areas where ESPN has the rights to the final. Add in the fact that these games are money losers in the US (NY Times did stories about the coverage several years ago attesting to low ratings, even below those of MLS) and I honestly would've been stunned if the game WAS in HD.
Also, it might not air live on ESPN 2 if Venus Williams is playing a late match at Roland Garros. Although I've heard nothing indicating that to be a likelihood.

Yeah, it would be a helluva surprise for this to be in HD. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that we get some HD coverage of the WC next year!

Well, DAG, maybe they have HDTVs in Hong Kong??? I don't know. I wonder if there will even be that many stations in Europe to take advantage of the high def. signal.
WC2006 will definitely have some HD, I think. I hope for at least matches where the USA is involved on ESPN HD and hopefully the final on ABC.

ROFL!!!
Why am I not surprised?
I bet Bristol would pre-empt a CL final for PWBA if the league was still running.
Buttheads.

LOL, but still, ESPN usually only preempts anything during live events, be they games/tournaments or major news conferences.
But I'd say 99.9% you will see the Champions League final in its entirety. Play at the French Open and Wimbledon are usually finished by the time ESPN goes off the air in mid-afternoon.

just buy the DVD when it comes out. And watch it again....and again....
it's out in the UK on June 20th, I think. The official site'll have it.
I can't believe that happened...I'm STILL pinching myself...
