What a poor season??? No excitement at the top of the table in any of the big 5. Everybody won the league titles with weeks to spare. Lyons, PSV, Chelsea and Bayern Munich won the title by more than 10 points. The only real excitement was in Italy where AC Milan and Juventus were tied on point a few weeks ago, but Juventus still won with two more games to go.
With the exception of the French league and Bundesliga, the gap between the 2nd and 3rd team were not even close. Is this the worst season ever in terms of excitement at the top of the table?

There was plenty of excitement in the Dutch league with AZ battling for the title for 3 quarters of the season, having lost only one match and then suddenly losing 3 in a row. Then there was the battle for second place between AZ and Ajax, feyenoord to a lesser extent.
There was also FC Twente who made an amazing run in the second half of the competition, only nearly missing out on a European spot. In NL this was surely not a dissapointing season. Too bad that two of the main contenders suddenly lost it in sight of the finish line.

Yes, but the excitement did not last long!!!! Ajax still led AZ by 10 points as of now. AZ slumped at the wrong time.

Pherhaps not, but should we judge an entire season on the final rounds?
AZ has been a revelation this year as they played the most exciting football this country has seen in years and they managed to get some good results in doing so. That's what marks this season in the NL more than who won the title.

I agree that at the top of the table there wasn't much excitement. I think the Seria A was quite exciting though - the way Milan and Juve were neck and neck and then had that showdown at the San Siro. The premiership was over months ago, PSV walked it in Holland. AK did well but did anybody really think that they were going to win the title? Madrid made a fight out of it in the end in Spain but Barca wrapped it up with that win in Valencia.
There has been plenty of action elsewhere though. Champions League qualification has been good in Spain, the relegation battle has been one of the most exciting ever in England.

Anyone who doesn't think this season was exciting should watch the games of the last day of England's season involving the relegation teams.
Relegation is always more nerve wracking, anyway. If you don't win the title, you finish second. If you don't stay up................its a much, much, MUCH longer summer.

In Portugal the title was decided today on the last game, FC Porto was winning 1-0 against Academica and Benfica drawing 1-1 with Boavista if Boavista scored FC Porto were champions but on the last minutes Academica scored and killed our chances, Benfica-Boavista ended 1-1, they are the new Portuguese champions 11 after their last league title.

Wow thanks for the update! Did Porto win all 11 of those titles in between? Also, I was under the impression that Sporting were also in it till the end. Similar events in Scotland where Motherwell scored twice in the last minute against Celtic to win 2-1 and most importantly - hand Rangers the title.

No we won 7, Sporting won 2 and Boavista 1.
Sporting lost their chances on the last weekend when they faced Benfica they lost when they only needed 1 point to probably celebrate the title today against Nacional but instead they not only lost with Benfica, they also lost the Uefa Cup final agaisnt CSKA and today they lost at home with Nacional 4-2, they disgraced their season in 1 week and ended up in third place.

Serie A relegation battle is still on! Just today it was confirmed that Atalanta was relegated while the teams surfacing on the drop zone have almost nothing between them.

Just out of curiosity, how many actually go down this season in the Serie A? I always thought that it was 4 or has it been changed to 3? Looking at the stats now. It would be amazing if Parma were to go down. An away match to Lecce is their last game and they are in the drop zone (if it's 4 down that is). Bologna also in danger. Cheers
