View Full Version : Is that it now? is zizou to be wasted for the remaining year(s) of his career?

i dont understand this and it is upsetting to see. zizou out of position, overworked, and not playing naturally!
i was watching CL classics the other day, watching some Juve matches, around 97/98 etc. zizou looked a differnet player. in the juve team he was playing AM, behind the forwards, only really used in the final half of the pitch, he looked great!
zizou said the other day luxa isnt getting the best outta him on the left as his best position is in the centre, he has put in some poor performances, but stil he plays out on the wing? is this how zizou is going to be used for the final 2 seasons of his career if he stays that long that is?
if you watch coma un sueno (his DVD) you can see that at cannes, bordeux, juve, he always has a manager who knows how to use him. he is played in the right position for a start. but not only that, he is continualy rested in games. the manager would say i am not going to play you here, just prepare for the next game, or here u need to rest etc etc.
today it seems like he is overplayed. he 33 next month, this season he hasnt been rested once. he even played 2 weeks early after having a dislocated shoulder!!
people are questioning zizous performance of late, but the managers he has played under, luxa, remon, queiroz have got to be looked at. zizou has benefited over the years from superb man management, today he doesnt appear to get this the same!
as long as he doenst play in his natural position and keeps playing silly amount of games a season we might aswel assume he wil continue being a shadow of his former self!

i agree the man is much better playing behind the forwards. if only he is given a chance.

I agree also.
He has a great combination with Roberto Carlos... but the man is the best passer of the ball in the world... why not let him pass to the forwards?

There is no one classier than Zidane. But you have to face facts - Zizou does not like to chase the ball. And the RM midfield has enough trouble as it is, we can not afford to have the AM running 75% of the time.
Here is what I wish Luxa would do: Move Zidane to the AM & Raul back to the LMF slot. And then just sub Zidane at the half for Guti. And I agree with the comment about resting Zidane more so that he is fresh for the big games.

yes i agree
i remember when zizou didnt play a game and then when he came on the next match he played a great game so maybe we need to rest him more often

That Zizou ur watching in those old videos is YOUNGER.
No one was complaining about Zizou playing on the left when he first got here...making a great combo with R.Carlos. The fact is both Zizou and R.Carlos are older and they can no longer dominate that left side.
The fact that they seemed fresher after being knocked out from the CL was no coincidence. 2 games a week is too much for many of these senior citizens.
Luxe will have to create some sort of rotation next year....but one that can win when some stars sit out. Playing catch up in La Liga makes it hard to rotate players.

I don't think this is as prominent as we all make it out to be. Bergkamp plays the same position as Zidane and is excellent almost every time he is played - he is 36. Maldini is still in the top 3 defenders in the world and he's what? like 80?
Thirty Three is by no means done, he just needs rested and replaced with Guti in the 'easier' games.

Zidane was a different player then, he is 33 now and past his best in most areas. I agree that the way he has been played in the last 2 seasons have hurt him physically and he has been played out of position alot.
Do you know where there is a schedule for the UCL classic matches that they show, I tuned in the other day to see the Juve-Dortmund final finishing :(

Zidane has had some magnificent moments over the last couple of seasons..
I agree, he needs to be put back into his natural position, the only reason I see him playing out of it, is due to squad issues. Hopefully we shall see a zizou revival next season.

eurosport always seems to me to be the most random and disorganised channel there is, so there is no telling.
the last week it was on about 1030am til 1230pm but this appears to be finished now. tv schedules are avilable at www.sky.com and www.eurosport.com

CAM right?
yes, although in the latter stages (when france was less sucessful it is worth noting) zizou was played aout left more, presumably due to this being his current club position
