I understand that havent been out of the top flight in a long long time. So I guess it would be a shock then if they were relegated. Maybe its a good thing for them if they do go down because it will be a wake up call to ownership/management.

It would be unthinkable for a club like Nantes to go down - but you have to credit to Caen, their recent form has been out of this world......

Nantes in Ligue 2 was unthinkable until recently, but the relegation race this year is incredibly thrilling. As Ganu said, Caen revival shuffles the cards once again. And don't forget Bordeaux, which is probably doing it's worst season ever.
However, it's unsettling to think a team like Nantes, with a long history and a real fanbase could go down, while Ajaccio ( ) will survive.
Anyway, relegation race, with it's "do-or-die" flavour, is always a great moment for tension, tears, shrieks of rage and despair. American sports fans are really missing something, with their franchise system where nobody wants to take risks.

If Nantes did go down, they would go straight back up and probably crush most Ligue 2 teams.
The attendances would be strange too.
It would be like when St-Etienne weere down there.
Lets hope Ajaccio get kicked out of Ligue 1, because of their ground. ;)

I think Nantes has played in the top flight for 45 successive years !!
Even if nothing is eternal, that's so weird if they go in L2 ; as a Rennes fan, I should be laughing, but no, no Breton will cheer about that IMO... :(

Nantes vs. Rennes. Nantes traditonally have more fans and have had won more trophies than Rennes but now things are different. Rennes are a a good team and Nantes are a bad team and the Rennes owner is trying to spend money and has ambition to win while the Nantes owner is the opposisite of that. I mean Rennes really wanted and tried to get Daniel Moreira just now when's the last time Nantes wanted to sign a player of that quality ? Rennes even want to keep Frei Nantes probably would sell him if they had him.
