I'm bored out of my mind so...

What do you guys consider to be the best Peruvian club teams ever? Most people agree that Cienciano's 2003 Sudamericana win was the best performance by a Peruvian club ever but what was the best team?

You can use whatever criteria you want to define "best." Best collection of individual players, best performance in local competition, international competition whatever.

Here are a few off the top of my head:

Late 60s Universitario- Chumpitaz, Jose Fernandez, Nicolas Fuentes, Cruzado, Challe, Cachito Ramirez.

Late 60s Alianza- Pitin Zegarra, Cubillas, Perico Leon, Baylon

Early 70s Universitario- Chumpitaz, Ballesteros. Challe, Muņante, Bailetti, Oblitas, Cachito Ramirez, Percy Rojas

Late 70s Alianza-Gonzalez Ganoza, Duarte, Velasquez, Cueto, Cubillas, Sotil, La Rosa.

Early 90s Universitario- Zubzuck, Juan Reynoso, Asteggiano, Nunes, Roberto Martinez, Bazalar, Baroni

Mid 90s Cristal- Balerio, Jorge Soto, Martin Hidalgo, Solano, Garay, Struway, Palacios, Julinho, Maestri

I didn't include teams like Universitario's 1998, 1999, 2000 tricampeon team because, well, they simply weren't good very good. Same with Cienciano's 2003 team, as good as they were in the Sudamericana, they'd get steamrolled by all the above teams.

My choice: Late 60s U.

Chumpi was in his prime, Nicolas Fuentes is considered the best Peruvian left back ever, the Cruzado-Challe partnership is famous and so are Cachito's goals. They went to the Libertadores pretty much every year and I believe they reached the semifinals in one of these years. And of course, they beat River and Racing in Argentina in a span of 48 hours with 19 year-old Challe making the Argies cry.

you forgot rebosio and asteggiano

anyways my vote goes to the mid 90's cristal

they made the quarter finals and the final of the libertadores betewn 94 and 97

played memorable futbol matches in libertadores

and steemrolled their opponents in peru

i didnt see any of the other teams except for the early 90's U team, but i hear the Late 60s U team was something special

They introduced the club to me, and I was a fan ever since. My father was La "U" fan all his life, but I guess I was closer to my mothers families. And in the late 70's and 80's I wasnt watching no Peruvian soccer here, thats for sure.

I always wondered how that group accomplished their biggest feat (97 Libertadores) without Palacios, Maestri and Hidalgo, and conversely how they didn't win a Libertadores when those 3 were with the team.

I would have to say the mid 90s Cristal, just because that was the team that got me to enjoy current peruvian soccer. It was a pleasure to watch them play and I've always been a Cristal fan but with my dad's side and immediate fam. being alianza fans, I enjoyed watching cristal make it far in the libertadores while alianza stayed. I was born in 84 so I didn't get to see the older teams even though from videos and highlights i've seen and just because of the names that compose those teams I might say that those teams were probably better, but currently I'll stick with mid 90s cristal. Tambien hasta magallanes jugaba bien en ese equipo.

Welcome, where in NY u from?

And in general surprised nobody agrees with late 70's Alianza, wasnt that when the Peruvian NT was hot, and most players played with Alianza. One of the best time frames of Peruvian soccer in my opinion.

They were good but a lot of their players were aging. Sotil retired in 1978, Cubillas was declining. I think only Cueto and La Rosa were in their prime.

I'd rank late 60s Alianza higher. Baylon and Perico are considered among the very best #7s and #9s in Peruvian history and on top of that they had a young Cubillas and Pitin who wasn't half bad.

How this team didn't go further in a Libertadores is beyond me, they were full of studs.
