i am just venting a bit of anger, i just got off the bbc football website and read the have your say portion after the macedonia match and it was the same old BullS.
You English deserve that, blah blah blah, always thinking your team are world beaters when they have won nothing since '66', always talking up our team, blah blah blah.
i just want to know if any English footy supporters on Big soccer actually think we are "world beaters" and go round telling everyone such, i think most of us know that the team is not the greatest, they should do a lot better but we dont tout them as the greatest thing in football do we.
oh and its funny scots thinking now we should stop giving them crap because we now know how it is to draw against a team we should kill, from what i recall macedonia are ranked 90th and the faroe islands ranked 119th.
let me know what you think.

IMHO, England were the 3rd best team at the World Cup, behind Brazil and Turkey. Something to be proud of.

turkey and korea?? more like 5th best, but seriously this was one of the weakest world cups since Italia 90. If this world cup had been like 98 england wouldnt have gone past the first round.

Well, if you want to use the FIFA rankings...
England=9, Macedonia=90. England are ranked 81 places higher. Scotland are ranked 63, Faroe Islands are 119, so, Scotland are ranked 56 spots higher. That's seven places less than between England and Macedonia. The Scots might be talking crap but they've got a good point.
However, the rankings are ridiculous. I don't trust any system that ranks Mexico FIFTH and has Cameroon at their highest ranking ever, nevermind their awful showing at the World Cup. The simple fact is England should have destroyed Macedonia but they had to come back twice to scrape a draw.
If you're sick of people making fun of England for that, you're not going to get any sympathy from me. Any time a team gets a result like that, people are going to give a lot of stick.

England should have beaten Macedonia - not only didn't we beat them, quite frankly we didn't deserve to and we have to take on the chin all the shots that come our way.
As bad a result as there has been in our recent history in a meaningful game.
No matter how it is dressed up - it is shocking.

oh without a doubt we should have beaten macedonia,
my problem is not oh i'm sick of people making fun of England for that game, screw that, my problem is people who think that England fans think their team is the best in the world, that we are so arrogant about our team. that is untrue, we know we've got a decent team, they aren't world beaters but they underacheive. and i just want to change some peoples opinions about that.

Hilarious. Of course it is there's only been 3 world cups since italia 90. By one of the weakest I take it you mean close to the weakest but not the weakest so what is it 2nd or maybe 3rd.

LMAO
Says who?? you???
Nigeria were slightly better back in 98
Sweden were weaker back in 98
Argentina were definitly a weaker team in 98..
so actually our task of qualifying would've been easier .In fact it would've been even easier if you take into account the fact that 98 was played in european conditons and not in the intense asian weather conditons...
lets keep it real you clown..
How many times are you gonna make a mug of yourself on these boards??

As in league football the 'big boys' are always perceived as arrogant. Their does seem to be a belief that all England fans think England are the best team in the world and we ought to have won every world cup since 66. This belief seems pretty unshakeable. Like all persecution complexes, it takes only the flimsiest of evidence, such as someone saying a comment like "we have a good chance of doing well in 2004" for the believer to feel fully vindicated.
Also if you ever get involved in one of the many "who should be awarded the world cup in...." threads, if you ever state that in your opinion "country A is unlikely to get it because....." then you can guarantee a vitriolic response along the lines of "oh, well I suppose we should just award every world cup from now on to England then should we?"
All comments directed at England are written by green-eyed monsters through a red mist. Expect about as much impartiality as you'd find in an England v Scotland report in the Daily Record.

He's gonna make a mug of himself every time he posts.
I have noticed him of late.
Posts anti-European crap on every board he visits (specificaly anti-English) and then runs without reply when facts are handed to him.

Yes, Turkey. By all rights they drew with Brazil in the 1st match and lost by one in the 2nd. They finished 3rd overall, but were better than the Germans.

oh god to even compare us to Turkey is insulting...
Turkey = Croatia of 1998
Turkey = Bulgaria of 1994
they didn't have to hard of a World Cup IMO. Sure they got Brazil, but then they had a not-so-great Japan and inexpeireinced Senegal, then back to Brazil again. Whereas we had Nigeria (regarded as world beaters), Sweden (much improved team and always tough for England to beat) and the scum of all scum, almost rivaling Germany with evil....Argentina (many thought they would win the whole damn thing).
And when the dust settled, out came England and Sweden. Then we faced what seemed like an awesome Danish side (beating World/Euroupean champion's France and winning their group) and then a Brazil team we were better than IMHO.

All this stuff about how England should have easily beaten Macedonia is a bag of cr*p. Turkey drew at home against both Macedonia and Slovakia in the world cup qualifiers. Did that stop them going on to have their most succesfull world cup run and end up in third place? Even the mighty Brazil lost games against minows. Oh, but people are all prepared to ignore that insignificant piece of info so that they can have a dig at England aren't they?
It's a joke when I see people pressing panic buttons after a couple of dodgy performances. It's only two games into the campaign and we didn't lose. Turkey aren't going to win all their games and they will slip up sooner or later.
If anyone remembers our last campaign they would recall that the situation after two games was a lot worse than it is now.

Brazil got its fair share of stick during the WC qualifying, but we all know what happened after that.
Winning teams have short memories. If England beat Turkey in Istnabul, I doubt many people will care about what happened at St. Mary's. I don't think anybody really cares how they get to Portugal 2004 so as long as they get there... but nobody will let England forget Macedonia as of yet because they've still got a long way to go to qualify.
It may be annoying but it's just part and parcel of football fandom. Just wait until the next wave of qualifiers. Until then, enjoy club play and forget about Sven.
