Send him to a finishing school.

^agree.
Hopefully he'll be back in form (or at least reasonable form) for next season. Otherwise, it seems like we have some good talent in the reserves we can call on instead.

Bullsh!t.
Ruud is United's best striker and still the lethal finisher. Blame him when he's the only player not to get a goal in a 20-0 win.

Ruud has been such a legend for United in his time here. But as people have been saying, sentiment sometimes should not guarantee you a spot in the first xi. I don't know what to think about Ruud right now because Ruud(the one who became a legend here) would not miss open headers. That's just not his style. It could be rust..could it be something more sinister?
If we are actually witnessing a decline (I believe it's impossible to assess this year due to injury) then this would be the Summer to sell if we ever were going to. At 28 this is realistically the last marketable year for a striker at the top end of the market.
I'm just wondering what will happen if we persist with the 4-3-3. Will Ruud get 'it' back or will he still look lost next season, even if 100% fit?

Never really hit his stride this year. He'll be back. The team looked better today going forward than they have in a long time and weren't stifled by needing to feed Ruud in the middle. Maybe sign of things to come next season.

I think this season Rooney was our best striker. But I think it should be also pointed out that when Ruud is in good form he is our best finisher and there's not doubt about that. I can't see his poor form stretching till the end of next season, and I believe that Ruud will get back his golden touch.

Did you read the poll options?

He just had a bad season. Every great player has his bad moments. He is still a quality striker, I say we wait for next season to see if he can get his sh!t together.

Yes, but the creation of this thread was enough.

I disagree. There are 8options. One of them should apply to ever follower of the team, whatever that may be.
I can't actually recall Ruud missing on a header like that before. Kind of shocked me. They're even talking about that on MUTV right now.

More faith, all round. THIS IS RUUD VAN NISTELROOY we're talking about! Sell him and buy a midfielder??! Let's see any of Saha, Rooney and Smith getting 46 goals in a season. He's a world apart and UNITED FANS OF ALL PEOPLE calling for his head coz he's "only" managed 16 goals in 23 appearances in his most injury hit season yet is fickle. It's downright disgusting.

Relax, not that I'm calling for his head, its just that for all he's done for the club, we all have high expectations for him, especially if our season goes bad and we have one last chance for redemption and he fails to gives us that. I'm looking forward to him next season.

I think Ruud had a poor game but there is a huge over-reaction on the part of the fans on this board as is expected after a loss like this one.
He was not good today but we were unlucky. We hit the post and the crossbar and if one of those goes in and we win and no one would talk about Ruud's misses.
I think he will be back next season and if he stays injury free he can be the same old Ruud in the right system.
Now is not the time to ask for his head after all he has done for us ever since he came to us in 2001.

You're right. And we can't just put the blame on Ruud...like Howard always says, "it takes eleven players to lose a football game". There were other chances we could've taken e.g. the time Keane got the ball just outside the six yard box but drove it straight at Lehmann.

Crap thread.
I felt sorry for Ruud, he had a 'mare today and infact all season. He'll be back to his best next year.

Hmm, that's not the intention of this thread. There are 8options in the poll and most have Ruud staying.
