What the?
What the hell just happened?

Wayne Rooney made it 2-1 in the 90th min, I guess our non losing streak is over.

Everton 2, Arsenal 1.

Arsenal scored first, in the 8th minute, thanks to Freddie Ljungberg. Everton equalized in the 22nd minute behind Thomasz Radzinski, then won the game in the 90th minute (stoppage time?) with a goal from wonderboy Wayne Rooney.

I'm not that bummed - look, it had to happen sometime. Upsets happen in sports, that's one of the things that makes them so great. This is a marathon, not a sprint, and I'm sure that Arsenal will be in the lead when the race ends.

Other results:
Leeds U. 0 - 1 Liverpool - Liverpool go top of the league
Blackburn R. 5 - 2 Newcastle U. - whoops
Fulham 1 - 1 Manchester U. - another stumble for ManUre
Manchester C. 0 - 3 Chelsea - maybe Keegan-ball isn't working
Sunderland 0 - 1 West Ham U. - new gaffer, same result
West Bromwich A. 1 - 1 Birmingham C. - nobody cares outside the Midlands

Being subjected to following the match on text updates, I had a nice chance to yell at my computer screen after the Rooney goal. The unbeaten run was amazing, but it had to come to an end. Liverpool on the other hand squeezed out what sounds like a very Liverpool-esque victory. Let's hope the return of Pires and Dennis brings some creativity to the attack. From what I could tell from the updates, we lacked something there. Oh well. A great run. The marathon has officially gotten interesting.

Saturday 26th, home against Blackburn, who trounced Newcastle 5-2. Can't come quick enough.

That's not counting CL (home to Auxerre Tuesday Oct. 22nd, since RMTV* won't be showing the match, and Ian won't(?) be doing PBP.

Speaking of which, who will be doing PBP?

* RMTV = Real Madrid TV, aka ESPN.

Arsenal lose!!! Haha. In actual fact all teams are not unbeatable. But this is what makes the Premiership exciting. If every thing is so predictable, the game would not draw much interest among fans. Just like Real Madrid that has so many stars and still lose away games. I reckon another team that can beat Arsenal is Man U (although I hate that team), as Seaman's performance is degrading (he's bad in catching freekicks and looping goals). The chances that Beckham, the free kick specialist can beat Seaman is rather high.

Admirable sanity around here. Losing to Everton is fecking irritating (for want of a better word), it isn't going to relegate us. We had plenty of chances, but Everton had some of their own, and were definitely giving it a go rather than mounting a damage limitaion exercise - plus that Rooney goal was class, and will end up part of the romance of football for Everton (try this for size: scores his first league goal to win in 90th minute against reigning champions who are sweeping all before them, making him youngest ever scorer in EPL, taking record from Owen of bitter rivals Liverpool).

Long paras lose audiences. Brevity now.

We lost, had to happen sometime.

We're still the most formidable outfit in England.

Still in all comps, and hopefully, increased ruthlessness in future.

You sour, sour sod..!:D
Can’t win them all and it ‘was’ a good run.

Having just watched the highlights, it looks to me like we had enough chances to have put the match away long before Rooney even came on. Henry and Wiltord both missed when it looked easier to score, Kanu took one of Ljungberg's toe when I'm sure he would have rounded the keeper who was on the deck anyway and Henry had a curler pushed round the post by Wright among others. A good dose of reality (which it seems the Liverpool and Real Madrid trolls could do with), the important point is how the team reacts on Tuesday after this loss. One point off the top after ten games, not bad at all, although losing to Everton is unexpected and annoying.

Winning all the time might cause them to lose focus and interest, but losing will definately motivate the Gunners, especially in the final minute like that. I pity Blackburn.

This is exactly why I hate the international breaks. If this match had taken place two weeks ago instead of yesterday, Arsenal would have wiped the floor with Everton. Instead, the momentum is stopped, and the train has to start chugging along again. Hopefully it will reach top speed by Tuesday.

The football gods were against us on this day and try as we might the goals were not going to come. I cant figure out why Wiltord chooses to wind up and hit a fast ball into the corner when he had 10 feet of open air in the middle of goal. Freddie had a few that seem to be influenced by supernatural forces and Henry miffed an easy one touch.

Cygan and Caampbell seemed to have hard time communicating and were bunched up a number of times.

You have to give a lot of credit to Moyes. Most managers would have substituted a forward for a defender and bunkered in for the last 10 minutes when its 1-1. Moyes brings on Ronney who looked dangerous every time he touched the ball and shows an Henry like shot to win the game. That kid is awesome.

Arsenal has a great run and there is no shame in losing the game to Everton. Arsenal are becoming a formidible force and they owe their quality to the healthy dose of foreign imports....Henry, Kanu,
Wiltord, Viera, Lundberg, Silva, Cygan, etc.

So much for Wengers prediction that they could go through the whole year unbeaten....

Thanks for that "insight." Haven't seen you around here before - where were you last May when Arsenal were winning the league at OT?

I love crap like this. They never bother understanding the words used. Saying something "could" happen isn't really a prediction, it's a statement about possibility. I could find that someone sent me $1 million dollars when I check my mailbox tonight. West Brom could win the Premiership this year. However, I wouldn't predict either of these things(though the $1 million is nice and if anyone would like to help with that then PM me;)).

Love your user name Father Ted, but not your comment. Anyone who has listened to Arsene Wenger being interviewed in the past would know that he did not mean that he believed that Arsenal would go undefeated, he meant just that it was possible, just like it's possible for Liverpool to go undefeated - perish the thought!
