that's half his head (#18). Williams also played.

I can't wait to see Ben Olsen run at him during WCQs! :D

FYI, Ziadie is not actually cap-tied to Jamaica because of his playing in this game.

The term cap-tied means you are eligible to play only for a certain country because you made an appearance for that country in a FIFA-sanctioned match. In otherwords, the cap you earned in that FIFA-sanctioned game, ties you to the country for which you played.

Friendlies, which the Jamaica-Japan game was, are not FIFA-sanctioned. Thus, Ziadie could still play for the US or any other country that grants him citizenship.

FIFA-sanctioned matches are World Championships (World Cup, Olympics, World Youth Championships, U17 World Cup), the qualiers for those championships, confederation championships (Gold Cup, African Nations Cup, etc...) and the qualifers for those championships.

As a point of reference, 2-3 years ago, Jeff Cunningham played for Jamaica in a couple of friendlies. That did not make him cap-tied to the Reggae Boyz and later he played for the US. With the US, he played in the Gold Cup and is now cap-tied to the US.

Having said all that, I think it's a moot point with Ziadie as I don't think he has the game to play for the US, but that's just my opinion.

He was an idiot to turn down the Jamaica offer when he was a rookie here for them during WCQ. His play hasn't gotten any better since then, and if anything worse.

Thats why we traded him to NJ. We don't want idiots on our team.

Yes, we prefer having brilliant losers.

I wish him the best. I like the kid.

I think it was a very wise move to hold out on getting good enough to play for the US. He now can play a few friendlies with Jamaica, just in case, but avoid being cap tied.

Good luck Craig.

Well you're kind of right. Because Ziadie has dual citizenship playing in this game does not cap-tie him. Let me explain this.
the following is the relevant FIFA Statute
37
VIII. Nationality of players
Art. 18
1 Any player who is a naturalised citizen of a country in virtue of that country’s laws shall be eligible to play for a national or representative
team of that country.
2 If a player has been included in a national or representative team of a country for which he is eligible to play pursuant to §1, he shall not be
permitted to take part in an international match for another country.
Accordingly, any player who is qualified to play for more than one national association (i.e. who has dual nationality) will be deemed to have
committed himself to one association only when he plays his first international match in an official competition (at any level) for that association.

The question is what constitutes an international match.

once again from FIFA statutes

II. Definition, announcement and registration of matches
Art. 4
1 International football matches recognised by the Federation shall be those between two national associations affiliated to the Federation and
for which each association fields a representative national team.
2 An international “A” match shall be a match that has been arranged between two national associations affiliated to the Federation and for
which both associations field their first national representative team.

From Article 4 Para. 1 a friendly is a recognized FIFA sanctioned match because it is between 2 affiliated associations. Ziadie is not cap-tied because according to Article 18 Para.2 he has dual-citizenship so he has to play in an official FIFA competition in order for that to happen.

The only reason I bring this up is let's say a player plays in a friendly for the US and is only a IS citizen. Then goes somewhere and for some reason becomes a citizen on that country and tries to play for their national team. He would be capped tied because he was never a dual citizen before playing in an international game.

It is a confusing part of FIFA's statutes and they need to work on clarifying it.

I thought he made the right decision to wait. I doubt he realized then that he would not develop into a decent player. It didn't become obvious that he couldn't hack it until after he turned down the call-up. If I were he, I wouldn't turn down another call-up. A spot on Jamaica's team is the best he can hope for.

Sometimes you just have to let idiots be idiots despite your best efforts to enlighten them. It must be the swamp water they drink.

C. Ziadie will become a solid player. At the moment he is a little inconsistant, but you can see the potential. I wish DCU did not give up on him so soon, but a trade to another team was better for him. Reyes is the man and craig would not have had the opportunity to develop his game if he had stayed. As the metros were on soccer saturday (way too many times) this past season, craig had several very solid matches and let us not forget the schooling he gave Bobby Convey last month.
Good luck and best wishes to him.

Cheers, GQ :)
