Thankfully the season has ended and the much needed process of signing some new players as begun. Patrik Berger on a free:

Good player to replace Hitzlsperger. We need another five though, including at least one striker.

Another good signing. I`m expecting him (Hughes) to play at right-back, while moving over to centre-half if Mellberg or Laursen are out.
Not even June yet and two players in already, and the bulk of the transfer money still available.
Scott Parker being mentioned as a possible target, that would be a good one aswell.

Jolean Lescott - brother of Aaron Lescott who was released from Villa after coming through their youth team a few years back. Jo came through Wolves youth setup and has been an important player for a few years now. IMHO the best central defender outside the Prem. Missed out on our Prem season through injury. Key player in our promotion season. Would play for England if he was at a fashionable Premier League side, but probably won't. Don't think you'd want to pay us what we'd want for him though. We've also turned down the chance to sign Bischoff from Man City, which would indicate that we don't intend selling any key defenders in the near future.

i think what villa needs is not lots of bargins but big names which could contend with any of the big sides players. We always buy big clubs rejects such as djemba djemba who are never going to have a big impact on the team. the only player that we have bought which has worked out from a big club is salono. I think berger is going to be another ginola and do nothing for us. we probably won't even see aron hughes play. what we need is a world class striker who will put the ball in the back of the net what ever. we all know what villas history is like with strikers which don't score until they end up going to another club eg. milosovic, crouch the list goes on.

We need some flair. Do we actually own any scouts because if we do they don't deserve a job at the villa because they haven't really done anything since buying Angel. I say get a scout over to brazil and find a young skillful player. We will be able to pick up a player for fairy cheap aswell. The only problem is getting them to obtain a work permit, but if you don't try you don't get.
Villa need flair!

Kevin Phillips becomes our fourth signing of the summer.

A player I`ve always liked although its come five years too late to be a significant signing. He may get 20 goals, but over two seasons not one. If its cost us £1.5m then it`s a bit steep for a player who is 32 next month.

Phillips is a good signing. I heard 750k-1.25m range. Hopefully bring in 10-15 goals this season. Still would like to see a quality striker brought in
