Last Night it was made clear that baseball will be like soccer.Every 4 years a baseball world cup will this hurt soccers world cup or is this baseball world cup going to be a joke. I forgot to mention that only 6 teams will compete in a round robbin tournament. Let me hear what you soccer fans think!

Sixteen, not six teams. Group stage with 4 teams...two advance from each group and you go on from there...etc etc etc.

Baseball is an Olympic sport, it is played competitively all over the world. The established nations are from North America, Central America, the hispanic parts of the Caribbean, and East Asia. Australia has really established the game. The game is played in several of the old Soviet states, mostly as a leftover because of Baseball's Olympic status. In Europe, the sport has been growing in popularity in Italy and Scandinavia. I'm not aware of much baseball being played in Africa, probably because Cricket is the dominant member of that family of games.
The World Cup - as proposed - would see three first round groups of four play in the United States and a fourth group play in Japan.
I'm guessing that 8 or 9 countries could put together competitive sides, with a few token whipping boys (Russia, Italy, Greece, Holland) filling out the numbers and global scope.
United States
Canada
Mexico
Japan
Cuba
Dominican Republic
Venezuela
Panama
Nicaragua
Taiwan
South Korea
Australia
Puerto Rico
all come immediately to mind.

It will have no bearing on the Football World Cup, just like the Cricket, Ice Hockey, Rugby and whatever world cup. I actually think it would be a good idea. And I will laugh at my US chums when they lose to the Dominican Republic, who will have a super team. :D

I think it will be good. Baseball needs a championship rather than just waiting for the olympics. I think the first 6 will be USA,Cuba,Japan,Mexico,Domincan Republic and Venezuela. I dont think they have come up with regulations as to how many teams can qualify from each continent have they?

They should also come up with some type of qualifying system to determine which teams take part in it.

Cuba and Venezuela have good teams as well. Actually, Venezuela is the only S. American nation were football is not the nation sport-its baseball.

To be honest with you , I don't think it is giong to make any difference whatsoever. Does the ice hockey wc take away from the football WC? Actually, I don't think anyone in America will even care. When we host a world championship, the only other country that participates is Canada. Even if there is a baseball WC - most professional MLB players will probably not even participate due to contract obligations and we'll send a bunch of college kids and amateurs. Cuba and Taiwan would probably win the BB WC. Seriously, do any Americans care who wins the baksetball world championships, or the ice hockey world cup? No. The football world cup is a one of it's kind.

I doubt they would allow MLB players to participate, because frankly that would be unfair. To teams like Holand and Italy who play baseball for no apparent reason.

The whole point of the tournament, and the scheduling of it, is being done precisely so that MLB players can play.
