before he signs a movie contract?

My wife and I tried to watch Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy last week, and ended up ejecting the disc and sending it back to NetFlix within the first 45 minutes or so.

It sucked.

I managed to sit through all of Old School hoping for something funny to happen, but nothing ever really did. The only thing I can say for it is that at least it wasn't as bad as Anchorman.

Farrell was very funny guy when he was on SNL, but so far he hasn't been able to carry an entire movie by himself. I hope that Kicking And Screaming will be good, but I have my doubts.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

I've been saying this all along and have gotten lambasted for it.

Miguelito, I think you're a swell guy, generally speaking.
But you keep dissin Ron Burgundy and I'm going to punch you right in the ovaries.
(See? If you'd have watched the whole movie, you'd know how funny that is).

Since this seems to be a general Farrell thread, I won't merge it -- but you'll find Dante and a few others futilely joining your Quixotic tumble into epic wrongness in this Anchorman deathmatch thread (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185829&highlight=anchorman).
(Speak of the misguided devil!)

Speaking of the general Importance of Being Will, he was pretty funny on SNL. His Oracle Conclave thing was probably the most inspired.

Oh, and for those who missed it, he joined Queens of the Stone Age in the middle of their song in full cowbell mode: complete with the original Afro, beard, glasses and belly shirt from the original skit. It struck me as a bit weird, since the Queens were kind of rocking the sh!t out of a song and Will was goofin behind them. But clearly they were OK with the idea.

As the song finished though, it kind of became worthwhile as Farrell and the lead Queen stood side by side and eyeballed the camera with dead seriousness rockness for like ten seconds until they cut away. That was pretty great.

Farrell came up with the concept and helped write "Anchorman" and "Kicking and Screaming".

Maybe Anchorman got better after the first 45 minutes or so.

We didn't feel like waiting. :)

I think the better question is what in the hell is Robert Duvall doing in this???

I think that Will Farrell needs a director like Harold Ramis.

I thought he tried way to hard to be "Bluto" in Old School. Sorry, but that role is timeless, and no one could ever outdo Belushi.

I don't know what Ron Burgundy was supposed to be. I know one thing though - the character wasn't funny.

That's longer than my girlfriend and I lasted with it. I think we stopped after twenty or so minutes. Not only was it not funny, it was painfully un-funny.

I love Stripes/Animal House/Ghostbusters, but I didn't see Ferrell as a Belushi clone. That Bed, Bath and Beyond line is classic.

And such hatred toward Anchorman...wow

That totally random rumble between the various news teams in Anchorman was one of the funniest things I had seen in a while. I was totally busting a gut.

Yeah, the movie was more a pastiche of random funny moments, one liners and gags than a coherent narrative. I didn't think it was too bad. I did think that I'd enjoy it more if I were stoned off my ass.

That's a nice description of it. That whole "jazz flute" thing was more-or-less an excuse to let Ron be Ron, ya know?

The funny in Anchorman was mostly the stupid ******** the characters would do. To be honest, I don't even really remember the plot, such as it was.

Maybe I should get crunk and watch it again.

It's worked before. I wasn't able to appreciate Straight To Hell (directed by Alex Cox, same director as Repo Man and Sid & Nancy) until I watched it after drinking a bottle of cough syrup. Now it's one of my favorite movies.
