I suppose so, but it does nothing to solve the current problem. I would prefer to have Ferdinand signed up.

I think it's good news. Tim has been very erratic over the past two seasons, but Ferguson recognizes that he has a lot of potential and a professional attitude. Even if it means he has to be number two for a few years, I think its good we're keeping him at the club till 2009.
I've always said Giggs should get a two-year contract; but I've also said that we need to get a new left winger to give Giggsy competition. Lately Rooney has slotted in on the left, but hopefully next season Richardson will provide competition for a true left wing position.

now for rio and ronaldo to sign on, i just hope this isn't a cute way of keeping the fans sweet of them not signing up yet.

The boss says on Ryan:

"Ryan has been a fantastic servant and it is comforting to know that he will be here for another three years, possibly ending his career at United,"

To think he joined as a 13-year-old boy and to be at a club for 20 years is unique in this era.

the boss says on Tim:

Tim is a young, gifted goalkeeper who is progressing all the time and needs experience playing in our league. This extended contract gives Tim the opportunity to progress in his career.

Ryan speaks:

I have been here since I was a young boy and I have grown very fond of the club and the fans, they have been an integral part of my life.

I always wanted to stay and I am happy that everything has worked out.

Tim speaks:

I have enjoyed my time so far with Manchester United, but you recognise you are always learning.

The fans here are amazing and I am happy to be committing my future to the club. I look forward to enjoying a successful time with United.

We could keep both Howard and Carroll on the books. But I can see Howard being loaned out to another Premiership club next season, with Carroll staying as our backup, and with a new experienced world class keeper being brought in to be the new Number 1.

I thought the world was ending and that you'd have no money for transfers? Parma and Inter gonna give you guess Frey or Toldo because they feel bad for you?

Giggs is a bit inconsistent, and his distribution is poor, would have been better giving him a rolling 45 min contract.

More like, "Quick, spend some money to quell the masses. That'll fool 'em!"

why loan Howard? At this stage we might as well sell him because United only loan youth/reserve players to blood them. That would be a big step back after the role he's already established in the team.

why loan Howard?

*sigh*

If you read Fergie's comments on Howard, it's obvious he thinks that Tim needs experience. He's not going to get "on the job training" with United, and he's not going to get that experience as a back up either. By re-signing Howard to a 2 year extension and with Fergie's latest comments, what do you think he plans for Howard?

I think it would be good for United and Howard to loan him out. Even if he's not a Champions League quality keeper right now he a hell of lot better than at least 50% of the keepers in the league.

Everton finished fourth with a 71 year old keeper, lord knows Richard Wright isn't the answer.

I think Giggs contract is too long... 3 years? Its probably structured so that we can pay him a lump sum in 2007 or winter 06 to call it quits... I can't see him being useful to this club past next year... this year we saw only a sample of how good he can be... he's fading... not faded yet, but its coming... I hope we get cover for him soon.

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere else, but it looks like Tim Howard has signed a new two year deal with Man Utd.

"With the turmoil over Malcolm Glazer's £790million takeover bid still reverberating around Old Trafford, the past 24 hours has brought some welcome news on the pitch, with confirmation Giggs and goalkeeper Tim Howard have signed two-year extensions to their current deals."
