Got this from a different forum, don't know the source:

Glazer: Go get me Beckham

Malcolm Glazer is prepared to bankroll a dramatic bid to bring David Beckham back to Old Trafford. The American tycoon will give Sir Alex Ferguson the final say, but The People understands the Glazer camp is keen for the England skipper to join the new Old Trafford regime. And the idea might be tempting for Becks, who is trying to raise his own personal profile in the United States. Glazer, of course, will be desperate to promote United in his own Amercian market. And he knows Beckham is the ONLY footballer to warrant a mention in the US media. Fergie would not entertain the idea of re-signing Becks if he thought it was just a marketing gimmick. But privately, Fergie has told friends that there are no hard feelings between him and Beckham - despite the saga of the flying boot and the player's departure for Spain. Indeed, Beckham has recently paid tribute to Fergie's role in his career.

well on becks' form v barca, why not? helps ruud, gives him service. but thats pure press **************** from where im standing and not worth the fee, we need essien more

why get him when we can get younger players for cheaper. I realize that Beckham is on form at the moment, but that only makes him more valuable to Real, and therefore more expensive to any interested clubs.

essien isnt as marketable and profitable as beckham! and we all know what glazer is after!

Beckham got the boot for his shite performances. If he wants to return, then he needs to learn that he should do his talking on the pitch and that should be the priority, not his image, sponsorship or bank balance.

I would like to see Becks back to Old Trafford, but not this way. If the American wants him for his skill and experience, I have no problem with it. Unfortunately he wants Becks to be back for marketing reason, I am against that. Specially, his return may spell departure of Ronaldo.

and maybe even sir alex?? if glazer tries to pressure him into purchasing players for marketing value, to go back on a transfer and maybe embarass him, he could walk. there's already talk of him considering it, though i doubt the validity of that talk.

This is a first indication that Glazer will make commercial decisions not footballing ones and could well interfere with the running of the on-field aspects of the club that we just don't need.

There is an assumption that on-field success and financial success are synonymous. That's not the case. They overlap in some areas but conflict in others.

The worst scenario is if Glazer's business plans fail. But even if they succeed - he makes the profits he needs to - we could well see many decisions that don't make a lot of sense from the point of view of fans and the club's on-field performances. With the money you'd need to buy and pay for Beckham you could do a lot better for on-field performance with other players.

I HIGHLY doubt we will spend any transfer money on beckham....that would be verrrryy expensive and completely unecessary. Don't count on it. Silly rumours.

For the money he'd cost, I'd suspect that Posh is the only one really wanting Becks right now.

His worth is very much in the marketing, eh?
Inflated price due to the potential money making machine of marketing.
Would be a bad idea to get Beckham back.

Not that I think he isn't a great player. Just overpriced for a team that needs to win more.

Agreed. Absolutely horrible idea if we want to win - and I trust Glazer wants us to win.

You're not far off on that one.

Let's remember that with Beckham "The Footballer" comes Beckham" The Icon".
The former is not as useful to money makers liek Glazer and Posh, but the latter is.
I can see Posh calling up Glazer and offering her influence to swing the deal.
She desperately wants to reverse her fortunes. When she and David hooked up she was the superstar, and he was *just* a talented and good looking kid playing inthe shadow of Cantona, Keane, Giggs, etc...
Posh, and Ferguson MADE him the Icon he was and is still cashing in on.

I'm now convinced that things may not turn out so well for the Reds. When on-field decisions are made for off-field reasons, you may have problems.

Do you suppose in the Glazer family bunker, after setting their sights on Beckham, Malcolm was heard to utter "This Pele fellow seems to be of some repute. Let's sign him too."

And have you been a success on field? Are you satisfied with a third place EPL finish, and a quick exit from the Champions' League?

With Becks and Solskjaer back Rudd will be a very happy man. Maybe this is the cleverest deal of all time!!!

Why do so many people seem to constitute those criteria as an unmitigated failure while completely ignoring the previous ten years or so? Yes, the past two seasons have been disappointments, but only by the extremely high standards already set by this club. We're hardly ailing either on or off the field, however.
