You've got to read what this guy has to say in the Tampa Tribune.

Wow... is that the kind of pointless dreck that passes for journalism nowadays? Seriously, that guy is a Liverpool fan laughing at our plight, right? There was absolutely zero journalism in that article.
Wow, just... wow.

Wow, I'm not even a Man U fan, and I still hate this guy (but I love him at the same time). What a ridiculous, pompous article.

I don't get it.
There's nothing there to even get. It's seriously the equivalent of a five-year-old saying "haha, poopyhead" to a ten-year-old who's fallen down and gotten hurt. It may have been the most unfunny, pointless thing I've read. Ever.

That guy wrote some trash before... that pic is unforgettable, btw.
Well, now we know why he's so bitter, don't we. If I looked like that, I'd volunteer for experimental plastic surgery.

I am not usually one to become angry about insults from others on my love football but this man has no respect. He points and laughs at our beloved Uniteds fans and for what?To make some dough on his weekly forum in which he states has sadistic opinion.I am use to criticism for being dedicated to Manutd football because in hawaii(and the U.S. in general) a great sport like football is not respected. But for this man (who calls himself a journalist)to mock me for trying to be the best fan I can be...its insulting.I wait weeks and sometimes even monthes to catch a Manutd game on our airwaves and I wont take this from some stupid fool. So I say congrads to all who who still beleive in and are loyal to ManUtd despite its faults. We are the true fans and I raise my stout to you.
Glory!Glory Manchester United!

The only hilarious thing in that article is his hairpiece.
He thought he was pretty hilarious when he said "His two _________s, _____ and _____" with different fill-ins five times!
I'm not a huge ManU fan, but I'm a huge hater of sports columnists, and this guy is a Grade "A" Scrotum Barnacle.

I re-read the article again (WHY?!) and was so insulted in general that I sent a letter to the editor. It read:
Daniel Ruth's May 13 column on Manchester United Football Club being purchased by Malcolm Glazer read exactly like an internet forum post from a new user trying to impress the old guard. The obvious, unabashed fellating of Malcolm Glazer was as embarassing to read as the combover hairpiece in his photo was to view.
Mr. Ruth has been spending too much time with his poor analogy-ridden self-descriptors, "respectless" and "buffoon".
...and I'm a Charlton supporter!

Well-stated. Hopefully he's gotten plenty more of that.

Although the article is stylistically annoying, needless smug and hilarious only to those who think repeating the same (weak) joke over and over is funny, the point is probably correct. There are (more than) enough fans who will be willing to spend their money to support United such that the gestures that the rest of us make and the steps that the rest of us take will cause barely a ripple. Not that this should deter us.
Truly, in the coming season, the fans will be made up of an even larger percentage of the johnny-come-lately, glory-seekers that have swelled the ranks over the past decade, as the "old school" fans leave to follow another team. Here in the States, its difficult to understand some of the outcry as we are used to ownership changes in our sports teams. We cheer for the shirts and the caps and the players we remember and hope that we again can feel the way the our team once made us feel. Cynicism in this case may be justified but its difficult to imagine not jumping out of my seat next season if Rooney or Ronaldo score a wonder goal or if the Reds beat the Arse (again).
It is the nature of sports fandom to lament a golden age passed by but there is always another. Money drives sports now and our cherished ideals (no sponsorships, playing for the love of the game, etc.) are destroyed one by one, and for some it is enough. For the rest of us there is confusion and anger but, ultimately, hope. I hope that United wins, and if Glazer makes money then so be it. But none of the money will be from my pocket.
