it would help to know what kind of stuff you dig.

For example, I would like to recommend Amon Tobin's recent album Supermodified, download "Get Your Snack On" and "Four Ton Mantis" and if you like, then get the album.

This is a genre I know next to nothing about, wish I knew more. I have a few things I've stumbled across and really like.

Holy smoke... didn't think I'd see much Amon Tobin mentioned on this site! One of my favorite DJ's... the dude knows beats. Word has it that he moved to Montreal becuase of the untapped sources of beats that are there now - which makes sense since the jazz festival and everything happens there.

Personally I dig his "Permutation" cd. It's a classic to me. 2 years after that came out, "Nova" was later transformed into a modern rendition of Samba De Bencao, a classic Bossa Nova song, by Vinicius De Moraes. The one that was sung over Amon Tobin's "Nova" was sung by Bebel Gilberto. Funny to hear.

Oh... um... techno. I'm not in the game as much as I used to be. I can recommend an incredible 3 disc house set by Danny Krivit. It's his "In the House" album. A handful of other very good DJ's and groups have done this series - most notably Kenny Dope, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Kenny Dope's MAW group (Masters At Work). Danny Krivit's album is pretty good, especially if you're into the direction house has gone in for the past 3 years or so; like, more melodic, classier, some soulful vocals and a healthy dosage of jazz and real istruments blended in.

Not to ramble too much, but it's sort of weird - trance/tech is a bit off now. A major club in Boston stopped playing it and returned to top 40. And then there's guys like Tiesto who some fans seem to love no matter what he puts out or if it's rubbish or not. The scene's changed quite a bit. Maybe it's just a generation thing but I find the nu-house/nu-jazz cuts easier on the ears. :D But if you do want an interesting vibe and blend of trance/tech music, check out Euphoria's "Deeper Shades" series. There are two of them right now that I'm aware of, and the're quite good. I still enjoy them - I got the first back in 2002 (or 2003, can't remember) and still can play it.

You're right Alex, the scene is not what it used to be. Permutations is great as well.

Astabooty, another psy artist to check out is Shpongle

Do you like the more hard and rugged sound or do you prefer the easier melodic (trance) and rythmic (techno) stuff?

El Ardillo

okay, i like rythmic stuff. and also, melodic stuff.

techno and trance are nearly the same to me. trance is more light.

if its good and euro i'll take it.

Don't think I can really help you out then. More into the harder techno (called tekno down here I dunno why... Pet Project, Dj Rush) and hardcore stuff myself.

A friend of mine is into techno though. I'll ask him for some good stuff.

anymore hard techno you can suggest? also do you know any good jungle or drum n bass ppl? thanks :)

personally im into all kinds of trance (i use trance and techno to group in all the types). started with commercial house and trance, but i like the psychedelic, hard, melodic, soft vocals, electronic, etc. it is all different and all nice. personally i think goa/psych and melodic are great to sleep to :)

Well... I don't think you'd like it but you might try Endymion. I have some sets of his that are very heavy industrial techno/hardcore kind of stuff... I dunno how to call it. He usually spins at hardcore parties in the NL, so it's not exactly easy stuff.

I appreciate it although it isn't really my style.

If it's actual hardcore you want, just ask. It comes in many different flavours as well, some of it quite melodic. At the moment the top notch in hardcore productions is very cleverly produced stuff. I'm more knowledgeable on the older sound though which is less spectacularly produced. As technology advances the music goes deeper.

A personal favourite of mine from 1996 I believe is 'Flesh is the fever' by The Horrorist. It's not too hard and still a very popular record in the Dutch scene. You might want to give it a shot ;)

BTW, I haven't got a clue about jungle or dnb :D

How is the 'dance' scene in the US anyway?

I know techno is pretty big in Detroit... is there anything else?

Nice site, but he chose some pretty lame example music. Still a nice feat though. He's got some of his definitions wrong though IMO, but screw it.

Too bad he's badmouthing hardcore ;)
