Again, as with the WYC, it's expected 3 of UEFA's referees are there as FOs, these being MMG, Ivanov and either Fandel or Merk. UEFA usually only has 3 representatives at the Confeds Cup.
You'll know more abour Prendergaast, but from what I remember of Japorea, he didn't look too bad.
And two of UEFA's most senior referees are at the tournament in Merk and Michel. Still no sign of Poll, although I'm hoping he'll go to the World Club tournament as it'll be much more of a test. Also no sign of your guy Kevin Stott, yet, but there's still the U17s and the aforementioned world club tournament to come.

And might I add that I am absolutely shocked to see an AR from Trinidad & Tobago in his crew.

As he's been to the WYC twice already, the U17 tournament would seem like a step down (although I understand that, since it's being used for WC identification purposes for the first time, that's not really true). I would hope he goes to the Club World Championships, as well. But it seems like the CWC would only need 5 referees at the most (with, potentially, some 4th officials) since there are only 5 or 6 games scheduled.
I wonder what the thinking is behind which referees go to which tournaments and, especially, if the chronology matters. The Club World Championships doesn't take place until December, so could that tournament be a final test for those as seen on the bubble? Also, is the U17 tournament, which is, obstensibly the least prestigious tournament, being used as the venue for those that have the least chance of making it to Germany, or--since it's less of a challenge--is it where many of the "locks" are being sent?

:D I'll let others take their shots. Suffice it to say, Prendergast has a less than stellar reputation on this side of the pond.

I'm fairly certain he's not on Bruce Arena's Christmas card list.

Your post are usually so learned and reasonably thought out that I didn't catch the sarcasm.
