It appears that Ray is going to be doing the color for the SJ games this year as well as The Soccer Files on Gol TV. He did the SJ-Chi match, did watch the video was terrible - contrast was way off and was painful to watch.

You've got to love the latest "Hudson-ism" from this past weekend. He and his partner were talking about the protest by the "Section 8" Chicago fans. Hudson said, "I never really understood 'Section 8', it reminds me of 'Klinger' the character on MASH. What are they, those people in Section 8? Do you have to be crazy, or maybe a cross-dresser?"

Another classic from Ray.

Who needs tactics when you've got material this good?

Same here...let's see here are some sound bites:

No lipstick and purses here today, these boys have come to play.

On Davis's cross to set up the Moreno goal: No offense to Allejandro but my grandmother could have scored that from her rocking chair, the ball from Davis was so perfect.

On the San Jose attack: It's like they set out a plate of liver for Dracula.

The league is clearly a better place with Ray Hudson here.

Also on the Davis to Moreno goal:

"Oh goodness...that's 24 carat gold put on a silver platter with a yellow ribbon on wrapped on it.." (or something close to that) followed by ds39heon's quote.

Brilliant.

To be honest with you I will probably tune into a number of SJ broadcasts just to listen to him, so hopefully some folks in the Bay Area do the same!

Assuming they can hack their parental controls on the TV :D

The best part was how he spent probably 7-8 minutes pumping up Davis for the pass, when the pass was, in fact, made by Mullan. :D

Was it really? I wondered how Davis had suddenly developed a right foot like that.

Now if DCUnited were smart, then they'd kiss and makeup with Ray and bring him home to do games with Dave Johnson. . . . and be the lead on a weekly radio program.

I like him on GOL TV's Thursday show. He made some funnies talking about the Chivas goalie.

We need to collect some Hudsonisms again!

I was just cruisin' the dish, and here is a voice that is almost as familiar as my mother's. A tenor voice, a brogue as broad as the Firth of Forth, the voice that grates like fingernails on a chalkboard, the voice I most clearly remember telling Hristo Stoichkov, one of the best player of the last 20 years, to "Shut the F--- up!"

Ray, you're like family, that brother-in-law that you love despite himself.

If you are interested, he's on "American Soccer".

I caught a bit of this last night. I don't watch too much on Gol, but I saw the word "American" :) I saw him defending the PK happy refs, and the other guy arguing with him - that was great TV. He looks almost respectable with those glasses on. I'm fairly glad he's not the coach anymore, but I miss Ray. I'll have to start Tivo-ing this instead of that ugliness that the formerly entertaining MLS Wrap has turned into.

That was a great segment, but Ray was clearly just playing devil's advocate. When he was coach, he used to cream bloody murder about high-amp refs.

And just to clarify: since this thread started, it looks like Gol has merged its 30 minute "Soccer Files" show and 30 minute "American Soccer" show into a one-hour "American Soccer" show. Lord, they still can't get the commenters synched with the video (they were still yammering about the Cerritos goal during the Prideaux breakaway) but it's a good show and about 10 times better than that horrible Fox Soccer show called "USA Soccer" with those models asking people wot's in their iPods.

No better news. Ray guaranteed extra coverage on the broadcasts here because he was so off the wall. I'd love to have a few beers with this guy.

Like the time we had Newcastle Brown Ale with him at The Rock (now known as Coyote Fugly).

Hudsonism of the week on American Soccer:

"I mean, it's astounding. An absolutely incredible, miraculous situation that Rangers are champions now of Scotland. It was drama at its absolute all-time greatest. I mean, two goals within the last two minutes of the game to rob Celtic. Celtic choked right at the end; Rangers are dancing the jig, and eating the haggis until it comes out their ears, followed by whisky shots straightaway after the game, and it's marvelous for MacLeish. I'm a Rangers man myself, so I had a good belt of whisky after that game."
