I admit I was pissed at him for wanting to leave The Arsenal, I even recall saying that he should rott on the bench the rest of the season. But now, I understand that all the man wanted was playing time. How elese could he maintain his spot on the Brazillian national team? Anways, Id like to thank Edu for all the hard work he has done for us and I wish him the best of luck. It was also nice seing him take that penalty today.

I'm sure he's a fine fellow. But today is a reminder why we don't need him nearly as much as Gilberto.
Edu is a superior attacker, helloooooooooooo, . . . we do just fine there. While Gilberto is not excatly Claude Makelele, who is, he is a superior defender and our defensive record is better with him there.
Period.
Not only are we unbeaten in 45 staight games with Gilberto. He missed the FA Cup Semi last year. He also missed the Chelsea second leg of the CL last year, the only game in five tries they managed more than one goal. The facts just don't lie.
Good luck at Valencia Edu.

Agreed but Edu needs regular first-team football to reach WC 06 with Brazil. With Vieira and Silva set as our regular central mid-field and Cesc poised to move in next now, Edu knows first-team football will be far less likely here unfortunately. Too bad all the way around.

And don't forget Flamini knocking on the door as well.

Yes, Edu will be missed. I'm glad AW had the class to play him today (so he can showcase himself a little bit more for interested teams), rather than banishing him since he won't be around next season and will leave for free.

As you guys know, I've been a huge fan of Edu since he's been at Arsenal. Last year he really came out and we all found out that what he really needed was regular playing time to shine. I don't fault him at all for wanting that, so Godspeed to him. It was nice to see the guys give him the penalty, and you could tell he was really touched by it. It was also great to see the guys surround him after. I know he was a team favorite as well, and I'm sure Sol was telling him much he'll be missed.
I love the club, not the man, but I'll tell you this: whatever club he plays for next year immediately goes on my "Team" list and will be followed as much as possible.
Coach McGuirk, General of "Edu's Army", sigining off for the final time from Highbury...

As nice as it would be, it would be pretty much pointless. With a fully healthy team, he'll have to contend with Cesc, Flamini, and so forth for playing time. I wish he'd stay too but he'd just be in the same position as this season.....on the bench. I definitely wish him well though.

Thanks Edu for keeping the (short) traditional of the #17 Shirt going. You will be missed

Keep Edu, sell Vieira. Vieira's "big fish in a small pond" attitude is really wearing thin.

Did Arse ever loose a game against MUFC, as I recall when the gooners went to OT in 2003 FA cup and won 2-0 without Viera and Gilberto Edu was very influential in that game.

Edu did play well, he scored the first goal in that game from a freekick.

Which of course came from a deflection.
I appreciated what he contributed to the eam last season but I'm not really that sad to see him go. O used to say that I didn't want to see him score two goals in a match a, at least for a period, the second invariably was an own-goal. However last season he showed just what he can do when he plays regularly in a team and is allowed to be the attacking part of a CM pairing. The problem for Edu is that that's not really what we lack in this Arsenal team and by now he's probably third in the queue for that spot behind Vieira and quite possibly Fabregas. And I've never really been convinced by his performances as the defensive part of the midfield.
I am going to miss his cheerful attitude and his willingness to shot from distance but all in all I think that it is for the best for everyone that he seeks pastures new.

Now, be careful what you wish for! What if Man U or Chelsea signs him? That is not out of the realm of possibility, especially with Sir Alex on a thinner transfer budget this year....

I understand the sentiment Coach. Ray Parlour's leaving for Boro is one of the reasons I've followed Boro so closely this year. A little easier to do given that Ray stayed in the Premiership.
I tell you though, my mind's eye will long remember the image of Lauren giving the ball to Edu for the penalty.
