Survey The Team: Lyon gains the hearts...
"the OL became thanks to its results, a club which counts more and more in France". (The Team).
The magazine the Team published today the results of a survey * concerning the popularity of the clubs of French football in the hexagon.
After four titles and two quarterfinals of League of the Lyon Champions took a new dimension in the world footballistic.
At the fans, the observation is clear: the OL clearly places at the head with 21% front the OM (18%) and Paris (14%).
Jean Michel Aulas comments on: "truths specialists appreciate the performance in the duration, whereas others can be interested in a final of Monaco in League of the Champions one day and forget it the following day. These figures confirm what one tries to include/understand in the sensitivity of the spectators: there is a generation OL, like there were a generation OM and a generation Saint Etienne. The progression of our popularity is with the dimension of our sporting performances "
According to probed, the OL will be the club which will mark in the next years French football, the club which will have the most importance. On this question, the OL caracol at the head with 56% followed by the OM (12%) and a tandem PSG (5%).
Most impressive: 91% of the questioned people estimate that Lyon will be able to gain the League of the Champions. It is besides this trophy which misses with the club for 48% to become the most popular club of the French clubs.
* Survey carried out for the Team by TNS-SOFRES. Go back to realization: April 26, and 27 2005.
Inquire realized by telephone near a national sample of 1089 people, representative of the whole of the French population ten years old and more.

Yes its obvious to people who follow French football but it may not be obvious to people such as our Manchester United and Hertha Berlin fans/friends so its our duty to inform them what is up. Plus it was a new article not an old one so I thought it was worth mentioning and discussing.

Part of the reason that PSG and OM are dying is because they can't get any young top flight French talent to stay in France. Look at how BORING both of the clubs are compared to the other L1 teams that have young, inexpensive, exciting French (and foreign talent) would you want to support PSG if you lived in France? Farq, the team is rubbish. They have absolutely no talent at the striker position, and no creativity at the mid-field, unless Cana really develops into something special - it doesn't appear he will be the next Jay Jay Okocha or Ronaldinho though.
The club needs new ownership and new management.

Jay Jay and Ronnie pretty much held the club to ransom. Although in Okocha's case he was badly treated by the staff. Ronnie liked the occassional partay in Paris now and again, or should that be now and now?
PSG are always an oddity, because I wouldn't put it past you, that this team finishes in top 4 next year. Its just ludicrous. We go from crap middle-table side to title favourites with Vahid and then back to a crap mid-table side again.
Alot of it was down to Sorin, Heinze and Dehu leaving.....and us replacing them with players who couldn't gel (Armand), couldn't get started (Yepes and Rothen), or who are just plain, crap (PFF)
But yeah, I agree - its a lack of talent coming through. Monaco have stayed pretty fresh in the past 3 years because of their young talent and their knack of keeping hold of them or scouting new talen to replace the likes of Morientes, Guily, Prso etc
We've got new ownership, albeit still under the watchful eye of Canal+ (well quite frankly do you want anyone else?) and now they are looking for a new coach (I'm still not 100% about Lolo though...)

What about Le Guen, is that gonna happen or not? It's impossible to find english language rumor sites about French Football. The PSG first team is TOTAL crap, do you honestly believe that any of these players could secure a spot at any top flight La Liga, Serie A, or EPL teams? GOD I don't. What the heck happened to Rothen? The guy has ZERO goals this season, our top striker only has 13 goals. Pauleta is utter crap. PSG likes to pretend that it's a top flight club, it should be spending like one.

Well, that's just it... PSG pretend. Marseille actually make big transfers, they just stink. PSG goes after the small guys... And Pauletta is crap. If he was half decent he'd have 26 goals this year. I've seen him blow at least 3 empty net chances this year.... Aweful.

I have just had the craziest idea ...
How about Le Guen as player-coach ... he's what ... just 40 years old ...
Do you think this might work ?

would you want to support PSG if you lived in France?
Yeah if I lived in Paris I would probably support them but only because their are no other first division Paris teams. I would support the team of the town I lived in if I lived in France. If I lived in Paris and Red Star or Racing Paris were in the top flight I would support them instead of PSG.

Well I would argue that they didnt replace those 3 guys you mentioned because the team didnt preform nearly as well this year as they did last year. That was one of the criticisms of Dechampps this year was that he brought in the wrong players for the wrong positions. Saviola and Chevanton have not equaled what Morientes and Prso did and they never got good replacements for Guily and Rothen. Kallon is a striker and he had him playing out of position the whole year. He gave Plasil an expanded role in the midfield and he could not come close to duplicating what the guys who left did. Have you seen this gut take free and corner kicks ? Absoluelty brutal. So I would argue that they havent found the new talent yet to replace those guys you mentioned especially in the midfield. That is why they bowed out of Europe and finished a distant 3rd in the league. Also Saviola underperformed and Nonda was hurt again.

Yeah, I agree but Kallon, Chevanton and Saviola are quality....
Regardless of how they have performed under current form - they are still quality players. I think Chevanton has been blighted by injuries this year, as too Nonda. So, I think yeah, it is somewhat hard to say if their signings were truely effective or not. Last year Monaco surpassed all expactations and it was always gonna be hard to top that.
My point is, is that Monaco have a far better squad than we do...
But one thing is clear, they haven't found a good replacement for JR. :)

Unfortunatly for PSG, they never got Jerome Rothen, they got a broken down player who has struggled all year.

No it's seeming more unlikely as time goes on.
I think PLG will take a year off from football altogther. Christ even if he took over Les Bleus for a year, I would be happy.
PSG is not total crap, I think there are some good players there, who are lacking any motivation or cohesion.
Rothen has one goal this year (against Nice at the Parc) and has been injured for the majority of the season. He at least wants to play for this club, after all he is a boyhood PSG fan. :)
Pauleta has been inconsistent but it appears more so, because we have had no other top striker alongside him to share the burden and take the responsibilty of the striking role as well. So every single chance Pedro misses, is multipled by ten and then added with another seven digits.
There is no decent site on PSG in English. If I had the time and the comptence to do one, I would.

True. But has shown flashes of what he can do. As for now, its come to late. Give him next season and we shall see the real JR.
