We've all seen the articles claiming that Arsenal will have somewhere between 20-40m (or even more in some of the more silly reports) to spend this summer. Then other reports talk of the additional 10s of millions that we'll have from possible JAR, Cole, Pire, or other players transfers. I've been doubtful that we'll much to spend much other than funds raised by sales. I predicted 10m or less because I thought the reports of a huge transfer kitty didn't fit our financial status. Questions about the reliability of reports on the size of the transfer kitty had to be asked when we've seen this before (the board saying Wenger will have money but then later Wenger admits that he didn't) and especially now when we weren't active in the January period.
Now soccernet has an article (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=333102&cc=5739) with Wenger seeming to back up the lower transfer kitty. The article claims again that we'll have a big amount but Wenger says he expects us to spend around 5m this summer.
It will be minor changes and small money. I don't know what is big money for you but for me small money is £5million and big money is £25million...I'm not necessarily a small money man, I've nothing against money. But you spend what you have - or you die. We want someone who will bring us something extra. And I can tell you a few players who have brought something extra for below £5million.
That would seem to put an end to the speculation about lavish transfer spending this offseason unless we are forced to sell one of our top players.
