During his interview on the Comcast Post-Game show, Josh said he fell and thought he broke his wrist again. Has there been any word from the team? Any rumors flying around? I'm thinking he liked having the "club" last year and he pulled a Col. Flagg (remember M*A*S*H?) and finished the wrist off himself.

This isn't the up-to-date summary from the team that you're looking for, but . . .it was mentioned on the Soccer Show Sunday evening; they had Josh on. Without going back and listening to it, I seem to remember him saying that he thought there was a good chance it was broken, but that he really didn't think it'd make him miss any playing time.

Thanks for the note. Doesn't it seem that a broken wrist is a little bigger deal then this? If I had a broken wrist, I think I'd maybe have it checked out. That's just me, though. Maybe since he's an old hat, it's not such a biggie.;)

on the radio show i think he said it never fully healed last year, and then he fell on it during the game. He was going to get an xray or mri the next day (monday). He said even if it was broken, he wouldnt miss any time

He played most of last season in a cast, so I don't see why this year would be any different.

It's going to take a lot more than some plaster to keep him down.

Maybe he can use his cast to duel with Eddie Gaven's big goofy finger/hand cast, that might be fun :)

thumb wars?
No, he could go cast-to-cast with Heydude the next time we play the Crew.
BTW, when Josh came off the pitch for Dema, he was slapping hands all the way down the DCU bench. Must have been his GOOD hand/wrist.

C'mon, it's not like he runs on his hands...

I never read which bone in his wrist that he broke last year, but the type of cast he had on made me think he broke his navicular bone. This can be nasty because (from what I know) the blood comes in from only one end of the bone so a fracture can cut off the blood supply to the far end of the bone. You can get an avascular necrosis, the same thing that caused Bo Jackson to need a hip replacement. And it doesn't take a major break in the bone to cause it. Sometimes you won't even see the break on a regular wrist shot, you need one that looks specifically at that bone. If that happens and you cut off the blood supply, you are stuck with a permanently painful wrist. No surgical fix that I know of.

There are other ways to break a wrist that are a lot more obvious and debilitating, but this one is really easy to miss. Sometimes it takes a bone scan or an MRI to see it at all.

(Sorry about the more technical post, but it's pretty good information to know in case you ever fall on an outstretched hand. If it hurts for more than a few days, get it checked out.)

From Goff:

United Notes: Gros broke his right wrist for the second straight year last weekend, but isn't expected to miss any time.

In a related development, Freddy broke his foot off in the crew's a$$, but thankfully he's not expected to miss any time either.

In fact, it may lead to more time.

Article on Gros in today's Wash Times

In Saturday's game he fell hard on the arm and there was concern that he had broken the wrist again.
'Actually it seems my wrist never really healed so I will have to have surgery at the end of the season,' Gros said.

Off topic, but on the same article...
Rookie Clyde Simms, who started the last two games in defensive midfield, is slowed by a hip flexor but should be available Saturday.
Hip flexors suck. I had to nurse mine all through college. Plus it looks really funny when sports med people try to massage it for you.

Well at least it'll make him easier to spot on the field.
He looked strange without the cast.

Bounce!

I notice that Josh wasn't wearing a thumb spica on his splint. That is the thumb addition to the brace that is mandatory for a navicular fracture. From this, methinks that he really didn't re-fracture it.

Any confirmations or refutations out there?
