With todays result in mind we are almost secured 2nd spot and automatic qulif to Ch. L. :D

Isn't it funny how we have been better placed than Manure in 3 out of the last 4 seasons? And that year we bottled it, 2002-2003, we played some of the best football ever seen on this planet, but started to relax a bit, lost focus and took the eye off the ball as it were, and United overtook us. But we should have closed shop early on. Lesson learnt.

Fact is, that overall we have been better placed in the Premiership than United overall in the last 4 years, which means that we have been the best team in the UK overall the last 4 years.

Time to celebrate :D

That's nice and all but our performance against United the last few times (not counting the Shield) doesn't give us much to brag about, IMHO. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this changes on May 21st.

I would say we have definately played the best football over the past 4 years.

Hopefully we can finish the job on the 21 May, that will be nice, but either way it doesn't come down to individual games results. Success in the league is measured over a whole season. And measured over the last 4 years we come up trumps. :D

Somebody sounds a bit testy... I know, I know, the truth is hard to handle sometimes.

For what it IS worth we HAVE been the best team in England the past four years and by a few strides. Anyway you look at it - Championships, trophies, overall record in League matches, even head-to-head with the other top sides. That only serves to leave one frustrated by the fact that ouur fail to win the League at least once more in this period leaves many not giving credit to this team for its quality and brilliance(and fairly so in my opinion)But our top players are still young enough and good enough and surrounded by enough talent to right this if the right kinds of supporting players are brought in this summer and next. The opportunity is here and now...

Pretty selective, eh? Over the history of the Premiership Man United have been heads & shoulders above the rest as thje best team, and over the past season Chelsea have been the best in the country by a distance. Since the ban was lifted, Manchester United have been the best in Europe out of any EPL club, but over the history of European football, Liverpool is #1. Unfortunately, Arsenal is not tops in any of those lists, oh well...

It's about as selective as your list pal.

And a valid point it is as well. Despite our strides in the Premiership and been in 4 out of the last 5 FA Cup finals, yet we are failing in Europe. Why? We simply didnt turn up in Munchen and was turned over. We struggled against Rosenborg away and against Panathinaikos. Its ridiculous. Liverpool is in the Championsleague final, a team we can beat in the league. A strange world indeed.

Where was anyone arguing the point?

A lot of people put that down to tactics, and how other leagues' styles of play hinder how Arsenal play. As for Liverpool, Benitez is an absolutely excellent maanger, especially as a tactician (whereas Arsene's main strengths seem to be his scouting contacts & man management) - he was adapting to the EPL this season (as were many of his players), and had a whole lot of injuries to deal with, which explains Liverpool's poor EPL showing, but knows how to win in Europe, and with a bit of luck, he's got Pool to the final.

I was making a seperate point all together - that you can pick any string of games, seasons or comeptitions and use it to make your team look great. Although, the timeframes I used were actually far more objective, being on very broad spans of time wiht distinct limits; since the EPL began, before & after the European ban, over this season (the most recent always being the most relevant), etc. What happened 4 years ago that altered the EPL, or has exact relevance to right here and right now?

Of course you're right Billy. I just feel good that "my" team over a period of 4 years recent seasons have done extremely well, considering the resources we have. As an Arsenal fan thats good news. You must realise that. It aint that long ago that Man Utd were a dominering force in English football, nobody incl Arsenal could get near them. Your lot won the league 3 yrs on the trot, you had your famous 3 trophies in one season, unlikely to be bettered in my lifetime. But Arsenal have now picked up and over the last 4 seasons, not this one, not the previous one or the last 3 seasons, THE LAST 4 have done better than Man Utd. Wouldnt you be happy if you were an Arsenal fan?
