I guess it's mathematically possible for ManU to still get the automatic berth but very unlikely.
What I love is the temper-tantrum subs in the 67th. Scholes, Rooney, and Saha on for Kleberson, Smith and Neville.

Well, I now love the Baggies. Here's hoping they stay up (them, or Norwich) and our nemeses So'ton go down. This takes some pressure off tommorow.

Kanu came on and should have had a penalty!

I wonder if Fergie'll ever learn to stop disrespecting these teams by resting his stars. It seems to always bite him in the @ss ManU just don't seem to have the depth to roll over people with second string lineups anymore.

Yeah, the penalty called against O'Shea was one of those situations you see not called as often as it is called.
Kanu, however, was tripped. The ref just did not want to give another.

today for once i have to admit the ref was the good guy and prevailed. he didnt fear the man utd name and fergie is really arrogant resting his stars when he should be playing them to win even against small teams. I hope West Brom and or Norwich stay up

Seriously...has any manager in England done less with more than Sir Red Nose? The best news I've seen all season is all these "Defiant Fergie to Stay For Another Decade!" stories. Yeah...please stay, Fergie. Keep spending ridiculous amounts on transfers. Keep living off the myth of your great youth system. Keep pissing off your top stars and selling them for no reason. Keep underachieving, Sir Jopa, and I guess we'll see how much weight Malcom Glazer puts on past glory versus present mediocrity.

Why isn't anyone gloating over the fact that Spurs have effectively thrown away any chance of playing in Europe? :)
Its only Ray Parlour

I think they still have a chance of qualifying through the fair play league. But yeah, the glimpse of UEFA Cup football was there for all of 2 weeks. Poor old Spurs. http://www.awimb.com/fudforum/images/smiley_icons/fingers.gif

There's also the usual 'France for a pound' offers in the tabloids, maybe they can get into Europe that way. It's ironic that a club sponsered by a travel firm, never gets to sample it's wares :D

Fergie even talked after the match about how they've lost a ton of points to the teams at the bottom and how embarassing it should be for the players. Well, when you start Quinton Fortune, what do you expect to happen?

First of all, let me say I have no proble with this thread, and we deserve to have the pish taken out of us over the result because the likes of P. Neville, Mille,r Fortune, etc should not evn be on the bench for us, nevermind seeing the field, but this post is just ridiculous...Seriously...has any manager in England done less with more than Sir Red Nose? What? Over the span of their careers? I think so...
The best news I've seen all season is all these "Defiant Fergie to Stay For Another Decade!" stories. Yeah...please stay, Fergie. Keep spending ridiculous amounts on transfers. Keep living off the myth of your great youth system.Yeah, because our youth/reserve team who have won all 4 trophies available to them this season are just awful. Note how I am not alluding to the past, here.
Keep pissing off your top stars and selling them for no reason. Which stars? Beckham was no longer able to hold down a first-team place, Stam had brought a lot of controversy to the team, and was taking steroids, so that was hardly a poor sell, especially as the money ofr him finally arrived earlier in the week, and we can now put that towards possibly getting Essien this summer. Yorke? Cole? Sheringham? Butt? Barthez? We sure could use them right now - what with them still being worldclass players, or thereabouts. Now I can dip into the past and say we were very, very wrong to get rid of Hughes, Kanchelskis & Ince.
Keep underachieving, Sir Jopa, and I guess we'll see how much weight Malcom Glazer puts on past glory versus present mediocrity. He's got 9 days.

First of all, let me say <snip>
-Did I say careers? No. This season, with the talent and resources available to him, has been horrible. Period.
But, let's be perfectly honest. Fergie has had, what, nearly 20 years there? And in that time has won the top trophy in Europe one time? Is that a good enough return for such a big club, for one of the richest clubs in the world? No, of course it isn't.
And Fergie's domestic achievements should be measured in terms BW and AW. Before Wenger he ran roughshod over a league full of donkeys whose idea of training was having only 3 pints at the pub, and of managers whose idea of tactics was hoofing ball after ball in the box.
After Wenger, although it took a few years, chairmen finally saw the benefit of bringing in foreign managers - you know, the ones who know about training and tactics - as well as talented and disciplined foreign players. As a result, the rest of the league is slowly but surely catching up with ManUre. Meanwhile, Sir Red Nose thinks that cronyism is still OK, pressuring his young players to sign with his agent son and relying on the scouting "abilities" of his brother.
-Ahhh...youth and reserve trophies - so *that's* how you judge the success of your youth system. Silly me, here I thought it was how many home-grown players you had in your squad. Amuse me for a minute - name the last home-grown player to assert himself into the ManUre lineup, or even the subs bench, on a regular basis.
-Stam and Beckham were terrible sells. You can blather about the money that Stam brought you, but you had to turn around and overpay for overrated Rio, so it's hardly a cash windfall. You haven't won the league since you sold Beckham - plain and simple.
-Come on, Billy, I know you're a devout fan. Look in the mirror and admit that this year has been abysmal, just awful. And, really, do you see things getting better in the near future? Is Red Nose really the man to shake things up and lead your team into the 21st century? Aren't you tired of the chaos, the lack of a plan, the lack of spirit?
-Enjoy another 3rd-place finish.

-Did I say careers? No. This season, with the talent and resources available to him, has been horrible. Period.I won't contest that, but I will say that after our starting XI we have very few players who looked liek they deserved a place at the club this season. Part of that is Fergie's fault, but then again, some of those player's didn't seem so bad in seasons past.
But, let's be perfectly honest. Fergie has had, what, nearly 20 years there? And in that time has won the top trophy in Europe one time? Is that a good enough return for such a big club, for one of the richest clubs in the world? No, of course it isn't. Now that's a little arsh, isn't it? When Ferguson came to Man United in 86, for his first 4 years there were no European titles available to ANY English club, due to Heysel, and after that, the best players had nearly all gone abroad to play in the (then) European Cup, so it was a steep uphill climb to get back amongst the elite of the day (do you remember Ajax & Milan from that period?) - although he did bring home the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1991. It was infact Alex Ferguson, and the 'golden gneeration' of Manchester United youngsters that led the line of English clubs (by a considerable distance) in making the Premiership a bonafide force in the Champion's Leauge, with the 1999 victory being a significant turining point against Serie A, who English clubs did better than for several years afterwards (although this was during the La Liga period of dominance, it was huge to overtake one of the then big 2). Ture enough, other English teams coming up and doing well in European competition obviously also deserve a large share of the credit, but it was indeed us - Manchester United - that forced them to keep up with us throughout the 90s, and played the defining role in making English an attractive place for the world's best players again.
And Fergie's domestic achievements should be measured in terms BW and AW. Before Wenger he ran roughshod over a league full of donkeys whose idea of training was having only 3 pints at the pub, and of managers whose idea of tactics was hoofing ball after ball in the box.Of course, it was Ferguson & Manchester United that first took advantage of the new Premiership system, and forced somebody to make that next step & follow suit. It took a long time, but credit to Arsenal & Wenger for doing it, and proving that you could compete - it has made the league more competitive every year.
After Wenger, although it took a few years, chairmen finally saw the benefit of bringing in foreign managers - you know, the ones who know about training and tactics - as well as talented and disciplined foreign players. As a result, the rest of the league is slowly but surely catching up with ManUre. Meanwhile, Sir Red Nose thinks that cronyism is still OK, pressuring his young players to sign with his agent son and relying on the scouting "abilities" of his brother.Well, again it was Arsenal that only saw that they had to do something after years of us literally owning the league (bar 94-95). The latter half of that paragraph is complete & utter hyperbole.
Erm, Darren Fletcher maybe? And I would figure winning everything available to them shoudl at least count for something Let's remember that the mid-90s crop won the Youth Cup in 1992. Spector, when he has played in the first team has also looked impressiv,e Richardson has been perhaps West Brom's best player since going there on loan, Chris Eagles has been doing a good job at Watford, and Pique, Rossi, Jones & some of the others should asurely be getting their shots next season.
-Stam and Beckham were terrible sells. You can blather about the money that Stam brought you, but you had to turn around and overpay for overrated Rio, so it's hardly a cash windfall. You haven't won the league since you sold Beckham - plain and simple.Wow. Just... wow. Stam from an on-the-field perspective was not a wie move, but had to be done because of the tensions he had caused in the team & with the management (not just Ferguson, but the whole organistation, before you try that one), and in Rio (which I will get on ot in a moment) we have a more than capable replacement who is 7 years younger, too.
Beckham!? What had Beckham done in his last season with us? Nothing. Our best form of the 02-03 season came with him on the bench. He had stopped pulling his weight for us, and was putting all his effort into his English appearances. All we lost without Beckham was ree kicks, is that really worth £25mn and a spot on the field? No. Real Madrid have not won anything since Beckham went to the Bernabeau - plain and simple.
As for Rio being overrated... are you for real? in 2001-02, we had an awful defence that cost us any hsot at the title we might have had. In 2002-03, we got Rio, and won the EPL with the best defence in the league, despite having an insane goalkeeper and very, very little depth in any defensive position. In the 03-04 season, we had the best defence in the league (one less than Arsenal, iirc) before Rio got suspended, and then we went on to have one of the worst defences for the last 5 months of the season. This season Rio returned and we have had an incredible defence, despite the lack of a good goalkeeper or quality CB to partner him (although Heinze has been hugely important, too) - being the 2nd best defense to Chelsea this year is being the best defense any other year, plain and simple.
Our first XI is extremely good (as you have learned twice this season, although the 2nd time wasn't our first XI), but has some players getting on a bit - we have some youngsters who I am absolutely sure can make the step up (although some - e.g. Eagles, Jones, Rossi) will have to bulk up a little before being able to play regularly, plus we will have a certain 20Legend back next season. We need a goalkeeper (hopefully given), a defensive midfielder (hopefully Essien) and a winger (maybe Malouda?), then to give youngsters some chances. We also need to shift some dead-weight, such as Miller, Phil Neville, Fortune & maybe O'Shea/Kleberson/Saha. We could also use a creative midfielder to backup Scholes (because I personally don't think Kleberson is right for the EPL) and a CB if one comes available, but Brown can get the job done.
-Enjoy another 3rd-place finish.I'm confident I will have to... the again I am confident I will have to settle for another FA Cup, too. Whichever you would prefer to have is your own decision, but I would like some silverware.
