Apparantly we're back in for Makelele

Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Claude Makelele from Chelsea. The French club are likely to submit an offer for the midfield player in the next two weeks.

I don't think we really need him, especially as Digard looks as if he might be playing in the midfield this season. More pressing issues are a centre back and a new right back.

Glad to see that Armand is staying at PSG though. I'm hoping to see the club challenge for a top spot next season. :)

haha yea good one

as for Maka, if we get him then there's a possibility that digard could start at center back. if that's the position he plays for the espoirs, then why not - it'd probably be good for his national team career as well given the plethora of talent in the defensive midfield role. at least with Makelele, dd won't be thrown to the dogs and potential traumatize his career into stagnation. Some REAL class is always welcome at the club.

we're linked with the dutch international forward, Romeo Castelen. never seen him play, and youtube really isn't a good way to judge talent, but nonetheless, he doesn't look bad at all. hope his finishing is normally as good as it is in these videos:

He plays on the right wing most of the times. I don't know how much of an upgrade he will be though compared to Diane and Frau.

yea which is why I have some reservations as he looks very similar to what Diane is like on his better days. Hence, if his finishing is superb, then it might be a worthy possibility.

So that is now 1 signing (Digard), and 7 departures (Baning,Cissé, N.Cousin, Dja Djedje, Hellebuyck, Piètre, Rozehnal).

yeah, but who's counting. :D

Seriously, it's starting to look like PLG is going to have to strap his boots on this year.

The link below is about Mendy being open to a return to England - possibly Newcastle. However, I'm more interested in this player from Rennes. I don't know of him, can anyone provide any info? Thanks.

Meanwhile, PSG are locked in talks with Rennes over the transfer of Gregory Bourillon.

Rennes supremo Frederic de Saint-Sernin admits Bourillon wants to leave the Brittany club.

"I like Gregory very much, even if he is the only player who refused the contract prolongation we offered," he said.

"He wants to join PSG, and has maybe found an agreement with them. But Bourillon is still under contract with us for one more season, I called the Parisian officials to tell them. I don't want to break Bourillon's dream to join PSG, but his ambition has to match the fact we won't be losers."

I'm certain a Rennes supporter would know more about Bourillon than I do, but I'll give it a try anyway. Essentially he and Mensah were the second-best center-back duo in L1 this year, trailing only Cris-Squillaci at OL. This is evident in their goals allowed department, where they were second only to Lyon.

I have to say, though, in matches I watched anyway, Mensah was the better defender out of the two, but Grégory has his qualities as well. He's built like Mexès, though he is not as good in the air as the former Auxerre player, nor does he have the brilliant technique. He does have very good defensive awareness, though, as he does read the game very well, and he plays hard/has good leadership qualities. His weakness would have to be speed (I noticed this when Grégory was with Espoirs), but I assume that Mensah, who has decent speed, was able to cover for that.

He can also play defensive midfielder, though obviously at PSG, he likely won't. I'd rate him ahead of the departed Rozenhal, as well as Sammy, but behind Yepes and Armand.

Popol seems to like him, I don't know much about him, but between him and Camara, I don't have a preference, except for the fact that he's an experienced youngster

to tell you the truth guys, we needed to get rid of a lot of players... the 'effectif' was way too crowded and before we could sign anybody, a few had to go...

and while we've only signed one player, we have retained all the key players (armand, yepes, hopefully rothen) in exception to possibly rozenhal... and have gotten rid of guys we did not need (cisse, hellebuyck)... hopefully mendy will leave and we'll sign 1 or 2 players for key positions (right defense and midfield)...

what's a realistic goal for final standings this coming year? it's way too early, but still, should europe be a priority?

as rumoured, Grégory Bourillon is coming to paris (3.5 m euros, a contract for four years)

http://www.mercato365.com/medias/foot/Football365_300x135/ligue_1/rennes/56927_RENNES_BOURILLON_080707.jpg

I like the focus we are taking, recruiting young french talent. All the best to his rehabilitation

Not only that, those guys, Digard and Bourillon, have been captains/leaders at youth level.

i think we have an outside shot at entering the uefa cup directly, but intertoto is more realistic. hopefully we can get fairly far in both the league and french cups

Since Bourillon is done, does it mean the end of the Camara episode?

probably, I think we'll be in for a right-back now, but the problem is an apparent lack of choices :(
